USA’s possible route to the World Cup final

Here are the most likely opponents Team USA will face on their journey to the final:

USA’s route to the World Cup final starts with a round of 32 clash with Bosnia and Herzegovina. They’re expected to tackle this early test with relative ease, and it’s the round of 16 onwards where things get a little more challenging.

With Belgium considered their likeliest round of 16 opponent, the Americans will be hoping home advantage plays its part in what would be a famous win. The USA have reached the quarter finals just once before – a generation ago in 2002 – so (a not unlikely) victory here would make history.

Onto the quarter finals, USA could line up against Spain. Though La Roja are fresh off winning the Euros in 2024, Cape Verde proved in the group stage that they can be stopped – so USA will know that anything can happen in a one-off contest.  

If USA exceed expectations and reach the semis, 2018 victors France will probably be their next hurdle. Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele are firing for fun for the French, so Les Bleus will be tough to beat, but stranger things have happened!

And finally, a clash with Argentina in the World Cup final awaits the winner from USA’s side of the draw. La Albiceleste entered the tournament as one of the favourites to take the title, and with the 2022 title under their belts they know how to do the business in the final. Though, if USA manage to get this far, who knows what other magic might happen…
