NFL four-fold: Sensible spread picks for your week-9 coupon

The Cowboys should overpower the Browns, but they are not the only side poised to extend a winning streak...

Dallas Cowboys (-9.5) @ Cleveland Browns – {ODDS:118250659:6/5}

One of only two teams to have only been beaten once this season, the Cowboys have perhaps been the NFL’s most complete side.

They rank seventh in both points scored and points against, despite dealing with injuries to key players, including starting quarterback Tony Romo.

Dallas are unbeaten since the first week of the season, and have covered the spread in each of their past six games.

The Browns, meanwhile, have lost every one of their eight games this year.

Four of those defeats were by a margin of 11 points or greater, and they currently rank 25th in points scored per game and 30th in points conceded.

Simply put, this game should not be close.

Such is the gap in class between these sides, you can afford to add another couple of points to the handicap.

Kansas City Chiefs (-4.5) v Jacksonville Jaguars – {ODDS:118249663:10/19}

Kansas City dominated the Indianapolis Colts in a 30-14 win last week – their third successive victory.

The Chiefs have now won each of the last four games in which they have been favourites, and have covered the spread in three of those.

This week they face the Jaguars, who are on a two-game losing streak.

This is an ideal match-up for the Chiefs’ powerful rushing attack. Jacksonville’s defence has allowed the sixth-most yards on the ground this season.

Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles has been erratic this season, and will likely add to his nine interceptions, considering Kansas City have picked off the most passes in the NFL.

New Orleans Saints (-3.5) @ San Francisco 49ers – {ODDS:118251215:5/7}

The Saints have been successful against the spread this season, beating the handicap in five of their seven fixtures, including each of the last four.

They rank second in both points and yards per game, and last week beat playoff hopefuls the Seattle Seahawks.

And while New Orleans have struggled defensively – allowing the third-most points per game –injured starters Delvin Breaux and Sheldon Rankins are likely to return in time for Sunday’s game.

They will give that unit enough of a boost to beat the 49ers, who have lost six successive games since week one, failing to cover the spread over that period.

San Francisco have conceded the most points in the NFL and scored the fewest – hardly a winning combination.

Denver Broncos to beat Oakland Raiders – {ODDS:118251853:21/20}

Denver have covered the spread in eight of their last 10 games, dating back to last season’s run to the Super Bowl.

Their defence remains one of the best in the NFL, conceding just 17 points per game and 4.5 yards per play – the league’s lowest mark.

And they have held all but two of their six opponents this year to 20 points or fewer.

The Raiders, meanwhile, are yet to beat a team with a winning record.

Despite recording six wins and just two defeats, they are the NFL’s most-penalised team and set an all-time record with 23 in a single game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week.

That weakness, along with their 31st-ranked defence, will likely cost Oakland against the well-coached defending champions.

The Broncos have triumphed in eight of the last nine meetings between these sides since 2011.
