Here are Jack Green‘s five NFL tips to consider for Thursday night’s Week 8 clash between the Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings.
First-half handicap: Vikings (-9.5)
The Vikings have been ahead by at least 11 points at half-time in all five of their victories this season, so they’re likely to build an early lead against a terrible Redskins team.
Washington are 1-6 and haven’t scored more than seven points in the first half since Week 1.
Redskins under 12.5 points
Washington have scored just 27 points over the past four weeks, with 17 of those coming against the winless Miami Dolphins.
They were completely shut out by the San Francisco 49ers last week, and now face a Minnesota defence that ranks sixth in the NFL in points allowed.
Dalvin Cook over 90.5 rushing yards
If the Vikings are able to build an early lead, then Cook should get plenty of chances to run the ball.
The 24-year-old leads the NFL in rushing yards and has passed 100 yards five times already this season. He’s also averaged over 134 yards per game in the weeks where he’s had at least 20 carries.
Stefon Diggs over 90.5 receiving yards
With Adam Thielen out through injury, Diggs will be the Vikings’ undisputed No. 1 receiver on Thursday night.
The 25-year-old gained 142 yards through the air last Sunday, a week after a 167-yard, three-touchdown explosion against the Philadelphia Eagles, so he should pass this mark again.
Paul Richardson under 28.5 receiving yards
Richardson was targeted just once in the Redskins’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers last weekend, failing to make a catch for the second consecutive game.
The 27-year-old hasn’t gained more than 14 yards in a game since Week 3, so it’s worth backing him to go under this mark against an excellent Vikings defence.
