New York Yankees to beat Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays won the opening game of this three-game divisional series on Tuesday, snapping the Yankees’ six-game winning streak in the process.
Toronto may find it hard to wrap up the series tonight, though, as top prospect Alek Manoah gets his first major league start on the mound.
Manoah has been lights out in Triple-A ball this year with a 0.50 ERA over 18 innings, but stepping up to the bigs for the first time against a Yankees lineup that rakes is another story.
Starting for New York is Domingo German, who is 4-2 through eight starts with a 3.05 ERA, and is coming off a seven-inning shutout at Texas on May 20.
Toronto is in dire need of a boost for their flagging rotation, and Manoah may be the one to provide that over the course of the season, but a win over the Yanks on debut is a tough ask.
New York Mets to beat Colorado Rockies
The Mets snapped a three-game skid and levelled this series with a 3-1 win on Tuesday to remain top of the NL East.
Marcus Stroman gets the start for New York as he seeks his first decision since April 18 – an eight-inning outing against the Rockies in which he gave up just a single run.
Stroman hasn’t pitched badly since then despite four losses in six games, with the right-hander still owning an ERA of just 2.75.
He went six innings in his most recent start against Miami five days ago, giving up two runs on just two hits.
Starting for Colorado is German Marquez, who is 3-4 through 10 starts with a 4.82 ERA. Marquez has been impressive recently, getting decisions in his last two starts.
The Rockies, however, have a dismal 3-18 record on the road this year, while the Mets have won 12 of 17 at Citi Field, so backing the home team looks a good bet here.
Los Angeles Dodgers to beat Houston Astros
The Dodgers won the series opener 9-2 on Tuesday on the back of a standout performance from Clayton Kershaw, who went 7.2 innings.
There shouldn’t be any drop in quality from the mound in game two, with Trevor Bauer set for the start.
Bauer is 5-2 through 10 starts with a 1.98 ERA, and has secured the decision in his last two games, giving up just four hits and a single run in that time.
His opposite number on Wednesday is the impressive young right-hander Luis Garcia, who secured his first two major league wins in his last two starts.
Both of these teams rank towards the top in most major offensive metrics, so this one is likely to be decided on the mound.
After an outstanding start to his Dodgers career, it’s worth backing Bauer to impress again on Wednesday.
San Francisco Giants to beat Arizona Diamondbacks
After a sweep at home at the hands of the Dodgers, San Francisco got back on track with an 8-0 win in the opener of this two-game set against Arizona.
Starting for the Giants on Wednesday will be Johnny Cueto, who is coming off his second win of the season in his latest start, giving up just one run over five complete innings against Cincinnati.
On the mound for the Diamondbacks is Merrill Kelly, who is now 2-5 on the season after dropping three straight.
Cueto isn’t San Francisco’s best, but its offense should have enough to secure the sweep in game two.
It ranks above Arizona’s in all major statistical categories, and is an impressive 15-12 on the road this season.
