Philadelphia Phillies to beat Washington Nationals
The Phillies won the opening game of this series 6-2 on Tuesday and have now won six of their last eight games.
They look a safe bet again on Wednesday, given that Tuesday’s defeat meant the Nationals have gone 1-6 over their last seven games.
Starting for Philadelphia will be Zack Wheeler, who is 3-2 with a 2.83 ERA this season and is coming off a gem against the Milwaukee Brewers last week. He pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out eight across nine innings.
He takes on Jon Lester, who is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA after two starts this season. Last time out against the Atlanta Braves he took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits across five innings.
New York Yankees to beat Tampa Bay Rays
Yankees ace Gerrit Cole is having a fantastic season so far, going 4-1 with a 1.61 ERA in seven starts, and he should lead his team to another victory over the Rays here.
Cole is yet to allow more than two runs in a game this season, and that doesn’t bode well for a Tampa Bay offense that ranks in the bottom half of the major leagues in runs per game.
The Yankees won 3-1 in the first game of this three-game set on Tuesday to move to 19-16 for the season, while the Rays have lost three of their last four, scoring just nine runs in total during that four-game sequence.
This will be a bullpen game for the Rays, starting with Collin McHugh, who is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA in five 2021 appearances to date.
Toronto Blue Jays to beat Atlanta Braves
Toronto opened this series with a 5-3 win on Tuesday and is now 18-16 on the season, having won seven of its last 11 games.
Atlanta, meanwhile, has been solid so far this year but remains under .500 at 17-18, going 5-6 in its last 11.
As well as having the hotter offense at present, the Blue Jays should have the pitching edge over Atlanta in this game with Hyun Jin Ryu on the mound.
The South Korean left-hander is 2-2 in 2021 with a 3.31 ERA, and he’s posted a 2.18 ERA in his last five starts against the Braves.
He faces Max Fried, who has struggled at times this year. He currently has an 8.44 ERA after four starts and is yet to go beyond five innings in a game in 2021.
Los Angeles Dodgers to beat Seattle Mariners
After a shocking slump that lasted almost a month, the Dodgers have started to turn things around with wins in two of their last three games, including the first of this series on Tuesday.
The reigning World Series champions should continue their revival against the Mariners, who are 18-18 this season but have gone 5-10 since April 25 and lost seven of their last nine on the road.
Julio Urias gets the start for LA, and although he’s coming off the worst showing of his season so far, he’s still 4-1 for the season with a solid ERA of 3.59.
He faces Justin Dunn, who has been similarly solid through five 2021 starts so far, going 1-0 with a 3.51 ERA.
With the pitching match-up relatively even, the Dodgers’ vastly superior offense – which ranks fifth in MLB in runs per game compared to the Mariners’ 22nd – should carry them to the win.
