Washington Nationals to beat Arizona Diamondbacks

The Nationals are 3-7 after a slow start to the season, but they have won two of their last four games and look likely to win the second meeting of this four-game series against the Diamondbacks.

Arizona is fourth in the NL West with a 5-8 record so far, including 3-5 on the road.

Washington’s bullpen has struggled of late, but should receive some relief on Friday with ace Max Scherzer on the mound.

Scherzer was unfortunate to take the loss in his last start against the Los Angeles Dodgers despite allowing just one run on three hits over six innings.

He should win a pitching duel against Diamondbacks right-hander Taylor Widener, who gave up four runs on seven hits in five innings against the Cincinnati Reds last Friday.

Kansas City Royals to beat Toronto Blue Jays

The Royals won the first game of this series 7-5 on Thursday, moving to 7-4 for the season at the top of the AL Central.

Kansas City is now 5-2 at home, and its offense ranks fifth among all teams in runs per game so far this season.

The Blue Jays, meanwhile, are 6-7 and have lost their last three games on the road.

Starting for Toronto on Friday will be Steven Matz, who has made a great start to the season so far but went 0-5 with an ERA of 9.68 while playing for the New York Mets in 2020.

If the Royals’ offense can get after Matz early, they should be on course for another win.

Los Angeles Angels to beat Minnesota Twins

A 7-5 start means the Angels are second in the AL West, and they’ve won four of their six games at home so far.

Andrew Heaney struggled in his first start of the season but pitched six scoreless innings against the Blue Jays last week – allowing three hits – and he will take the mound again on Friday.

He faces a Minnesota team that has won just one of its last six games and scored a total of just nine runs across its last four.

The Twins are 6-7 this season but have gone 2-5 on the road.

Starting for Minnesota will be Lewis Thorpe, who is yet to make an appearance this season. The left-hander made seven appearances in 2020 – including one start – and posted an ERA of 6.06 in 16.1 innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers to beat San Diego Padres

The Dodgers are currently on a six-game winning streak and sit top of the NL West with an MLB-leading 11-2 record.

It’s hard to see LA’s run coming to an end any time soon, particularly as they will have Walker Buehler taking the mound on Friday.

Buehler pitched six scoreless innings against the Nationals last Friday, and the Cy Young contender currently has an ERA of 1.50.

The Padres split a four-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-2 last week and are 9-5 for the season, but they went 4-6 against the Dodgers last season including 2-4 at home.

Rookie Ryan Weathers will make his first career start on Friday, and although he has performed well out of the bullpen this season, this is an incredibly tough draw for the 21-year-old left-hander.
