The Betway Classified Claiming Stakes is the fourth race on the card and is run over a trip of 6f, and I’m rather keen on Gay Kellaway’s ROBSDELIGHT .
I’ve been a fan of this horse for a couple of years, ever since he caught my eye on just his second career start when finishing eighth at Newmarket in the ever-competitive Alex Scott Maiden. He then progressed in his next two starts, finishing second before winning at the fourth attempt.
He’s since looked as though he’s not truly stayed, mixing it at both 7f and 1m. This is his first start at 6f in his 13-race career, and I think it will be the making of him.
It’s a slow 6f at Southwell – compared to the fast ground on turf – and, if he copes well with the surface, he could be set to run a huge race off a mark of 67.
