Tuesday racing tips: Hypersonic Missile to fire at Sedgefield

Phill Anderson's tips for Tuesday include selections from Ayr, Sedgefield and Southwell.

Visit Betway’s horse racing betting page.

There are five meetings between the UK and Ireland today, mixing Flat and jumps, with some competitive races in prospect. We have four bets to get stuck into, including in a quality 2yo maiden at Ayr.

SELECTIONS

GOLDEN STRIKE @ 4/6 (Ayr 14:12)

AUTUMN FESTIVAL @ 11/4 (Ayr 15:22)

HYPERSONIC MISSILE @ 11/10 (Sedgefield 16:50)

LUSITANIEN @ 4/6 (Southwell 14:20)

Golden to strike

In the Virgin Bet Maiden Stakes over 6f for 2yos, Richard Fahey’s GOLDEN STRIKE (4/6can do just that on his second start.

A 135,000 Guineas buy at the breeze-up sales earlier this year, he made an eyecatching debut at Pontefract when slowly away and having to come through traffic in the straight to finish third over this trip.

He should be all the better for that run and this straight track will suit him, while he can handle this softer ground too.

There are a couple of interesting newcomers in Alice Haynes’ Beneath The Sand and Karl Burke’s Bona Fortuna, who both cost plenty at the sales but our selection can score under Oisin Orr.

Festival to follow up

In the Virgin Bet Handicap at Ayr over 7f, David O’Meara’s AUTUMN FESTIVAL (11/4can follow up his comfortable back-to-form Beverley win last week under a 5lb penalty.

The first-time cheekpices worn then clearly had a beneficial effect as he had been beaten a long way on his two previous starts. Hopefully, the headgear can have the same effect this time because he has the ability to win off today’s mark of 87, having won off 1lb higher on his final start of 2022.

Jason Watson stays aboard and he can take care of last year’s winner Abduction plus recent winners William Dewhirst and Master Zoffany.

Missile to fire

In the concluding Paxtons Supporting With Peregrine Finance Open NH Flat Race at Sedgefield, it looks like a match between Irish raider HYPERSONIC MISSILE (11/10and Phillip Kirby’s Tommy Time, with preference for the first-named.

The John McConnell-trained 4yo is a British point-to-point winner who ran into a Willie Mullins-trained rival on his second bumper start at Sligo last time but won’t have to deal with any from that yard today.

He receives 8lb from his main rival, who won a bumper earlier this year but lacks a recent run, so can take advantage of that and get off the mark under top 3lb claimer Ben Harvey.

Lusitanien to double up

At Southwell, the bet of the card looks to be in the opening Event Signage @ signsolutions.org Handicap Chase over 2m. LUSITANIEN (4/6came back to form on his debut for Fergal O’Brien and over fences when winning nicely at Worcester last time and should be able to follow up off an 8lb higher mark with Liam Harrison retaining the ride.
