Saturday racing tips: Best bets for York, Newmarket and Chepstow
Our tipster reveals his top tips for the weekend meetings, with a boosted win double and four Lucky 15 selections.
2.05 – Class 2 Handicap (York)
Starting off with the opener at York and the one I’m going for here is Hugo Palmer’s ANYTHINGTODAY.
He’s had a decent season and comes into the race on solid form (113-203) – the highlight of which was a commanding win in the Kelston Cup in August.
A notable third in the Dubai Duty Free Handicap at Newbury last month bodes well for conditions on Saturday and I think he's a nice price at .
2.25 – Autumn Stakes (Newmarket)
Next up and, in a race sponsored by Godolphin, I think GHAIYYATH would be a fitting winner.
The Galileo colt was disappointing on debut at Doncaster but absolutely decimated the field here last month when powering home by five lengths.
Following that impressive course-and-distance win, I think he’ll take all the beating here.
3.35 – Handicap Hurdle (Chepstow)
I'm marking the start of the jumps season by moving over to Chepstow now.
Champagne City is proven over the two miles and, after winning his last three, could be the one to beat.
But I'm backing DOLOS to do just that.
Paul Nicholls’ four-year-old is ever-improving and had a relatively solid season last year with two wins, two seconds and three thirds from eight runs.
Stan Sheppard has ridden twice and finished runner-up on both occasions, so hopefully Saturday prove to be third time lucky.
3.40 – Cesarewitch Handicap (Newmarket)
With a field of more than 30 runners and five places on offer, there is definitely some each-way money to be made here.
The first one like is Ian Williams’ LONDON PRIZE , who I tipped to win the Northumberland Vase last time out.
A versatile six-year-old after success on both the flat and jumps, he won the Maywal Handicap at Goodwood by eight lengths in June.
A proven winner over two miles, I have no doubt he’ll be able to cope with the extra distance and he suits these conditions perfectly.
A longer-priced horse I like is OCEANE .
He's also had success on both jumps and flat, with his last three trips all coming in big handicaps at Ascot, York and Newmarket.
King seems to have had a lot of luck in this race recently with a 50/1 winner and 50/1 runner-up in the last two years.
Hopefully this five-year-old can continue the trend.
4.15 – Darley Nursery (Newmarket)
The final tip of the day comes in the Darley Nursery, and the one I can’t get away from is Mark Johnston’s PRESTBURY PARK .
The colt has won two of his first three after assertive victories at both Haydock and Chester over 6f.
Saturday is his first test over the extra furlong but with James Doyle is sensational form, I think he’s a decent price to get the job done.
