14.05 RIPON
TOP PICK: BOUNDSY
Second choice: Dark Shot
Winners of this race have returned at double-figure prices in four of the last six years.
We should also focus on horses that have high draws – the highest draw has won this race in each of the last two seasons – and horses that are under seven years of age, with that bracket responsible for all the winners since this race was created.
That process of elimination leaves us with a number of selections, including big outsider BOUNDSY from the Richard Fahey stable.
Last-time-out winner Quick Look and top-weight Dark Shot should also be considered.
14.45 NEWMARKET
TOP PICK: NEOLA
Second choice: Staxton
Mick Channon’s NEOLA has placed a couple of times this season, but has been disappointing overall after winning twice as a juvenile.
She’s certainly capable of bouncing back to form and winning this, based on her last win at Goodwood just under a year ago in a similar class of race.
15.00 NEWBURY
TOP PICK: SALUTI
Second choice: Sea Fox
This is an extremely competitive 7f handicap where single-figure draws account for seven of the last 10 winners.
No horse older than five has won the race during the same period, either.
SALUTI had back-to-back wins earlier in the season for Amanda Perrett. He’s lost his way a little since then, but this is easier than the recent races that he’s been contesting.
The hat-trick-seeking Sea Fox rates as the main danger.
15.35 NEWBURY
TOP PICK: LIBRISA BREEZE
Second choice: Gustav Klimt
This is a Group 2 race with some very good horses at the head of the market.
Likely market leader Gustav Klimt has been aimed at Group 1s including classics, coming up short each time. He drops in grade and distance here, but I think he’s opposable.
The grey LIBRISA BREEZE is another dropping down from Group 1s and has far better claims to winning this at a slightly bigger price.
