Horse racing tips for Lingfield 05 02 22

Our horse racing tipster previews the Betway-sponsored card at Lingfield.

13:11 Read Katie Walsh On Betway Insider Handicap

The opening contest is a Class 6 contest for horses rated 0-65 and is run over 1m5f.

All eyes will be on the Joseph Parr-trained Aljaaryaal {ODDS:876281982:SP}, who has the fortune of Ryan Moore on his back. The well-bred son of Siyouni started his career with Own Burrows before being moved on in the Shadwell disposal sale at the back end of the year.

Since moving to Joseph Parr, he has won twice and placed on two other occasions. He was a beaten favourite last time out at Southwell, but clearly didn’t enjoy making his own running and will likely seek cover in this contest before being played late by Moore. He should have enough improvement in him to win off this current mark.

The unexposed Moel Arthur has run with promise in each of his three career starts and he could ruffle the feathers of the favourite as he is likely to be ridden to pick up the pieces late on.

13:45 Betway Novice Stakes

He was a slightly disappointing beaten favourite last time, but Obsidian Knight {ODDS:876282093:SP} clearly sets the standard with his debut second at Wolverhampton and can improve again for this step up in trip to 1m4f.

The horse who finished one place ahead of him last time, Flying Instructor (80/1 that day), went on to beat two other runners in this race – Needle Lace, who finished second, and Nature, who finished a promising sixth on her debut. Both of those fillies will come on for that Southwell run and will likely fight out the placings.

14:16 Handicap

Only four runners go to post in this 1m2f handicap for three-year-olds rated 0-85.

Base Note {ODDS:876282294:SP} has finished second on his two previous starts and it’s no surprise to see him stepped up in trip as he’s been slightly outpaced on both of those occasions. It was interesting that he went off at a well-supported 9/2 (from an opening price of 20/1) on his debut at Kempton, which suggests his homework prior to his debut was pleasing his connections.

He should have enough ability to win this contest under Ross Coakley.

14:51 Betway Handicap

The connections of Impeach {ODDS:876282263:SP} will no doubt be very pleased with his draw in the Betway Handicap.

The four-year-old is a dual course-and-distance winner at Lingfield, making the running both times, so his plum draw of stall one is pleasing. It’s going to be a case of ‘catch me if you can’ for the Martin Dwyer-ridden gelding, who will likely jump, lead and kick as they turn for home.

An interesting contender is the Stuart Williams-trained Puerto De Vega, who is having just his second start for the Williams’ yard following a move from Johnny Murtagh’s Irish base last year. His mark of 72 looks fair on what he’s achieved, and he could be a player in this race, especially if he’s played late under Sean Levey.

15:25 Betway Winter Derby Trial Stakes

The Betway Winter Derby Trial has been won by some great names in the past and Fancy Man {ODDS:876282597:15/8} could well add his name to that list this year.

It is no secret how highly his connections rate him, as his three-year-old career started in the Fielden Stakes before taking in the Chester Vase and the Betway Fairway Stakes. He ran well in each of those contests, albeit without success.

Following two more good runs in two Grade 3 contests in the summer, he got his head in front at Lingfield in October, which would have given his trainer the foresight of looking ahead to this race as his steppingstone to the Betway Winter Derby, which takes places on February 26. Quite simply, he’s the horse with the most natural ability in the race and he should take all of the beating.

Rose Of Kildare won the 2020 Musidora Stakes at York but hasn’t been seen since the September of that year. If she’s back to her best form she could play a part, but she will have a hard task against her rivals.

16:00 Betway Kachy Stakes

There won’t be a single person who would begrudge Fizzy Feet if she were to win the Betway Kachy Stakes.

Owned by the Lowe family, who owned the Kachy that this race is named after, the six-year-old mare would need to produce a career best to win, but sometimes racing does write these great stories. On form, though, she does have a little bit to find.

Rohaan {ODDS:876282268:11/4} was running at Group 1 level last season and clearly sets the standard, but you’d have to question whether Lingfield would be his ideal track. Despite the fact he has won there previously, it was in a much lower grade.

It is also worth noting the very poor record that four-year-olds have in this contest. They are currently 0-20 and if you look at the average prices of those runners and the combined percentages those create, it would have been likely to have produced at least one winner in the last five years.

Good Effort won two years ago and won’t be far away following his pipe opener over the 5f at Newcastle last time. He loves Lingfield and loves running six furlongs, so is the one to beat with conditions in his favour.

16:35 Betway Casino Handicap

If Ryan Moore hasn’t ridden a winner by this stage, punters will be hoping he’ll do the business.

He’s riding He’s A Latchico for his Dad, Gary Moore. This horse is still very unexposed, having had just five career starts to date. He showed good promise when finishing fourth last time and this step up in trip is likely to be in his favour.

The horse they have to beat on recent form is Coase {ODDS:876282520:SP}, a winner here last time, who will again be ridden by Hollie Doyle. He won comfortably enough but will have to cope with a five pound rise in the weights.
