The Irish racing broadcaster picks out his selections for Glorious Goodwood and the Galway Summer Festival on Thursday.

GOODWOOD

NASHWA {ODDS:1188140156:2/1} looks overpriced in the Nassau Stakes (15:35). Her win in Falmouth last time indicated she was back to her best and, on ratings, she’s 2lb higher than Blue Rose Cen. The French filly has done nothing wrong this season and will be a more uncomplicated ride, but Nashwa is much better value at the prices.

GALWAY

The 15:35 is not the strongest for the grade, but I’m inclined to side with the two who bookend the field in terms of weights. The top weight, ALL LIES AHEAD {ODDS:1188209346:SP}, was very progressive prior to her last run, which I’ll put down to the ground being slightly too quick for her. She is largely consistent, though, and is at the top of the handicap for a reason.

At the bottom of the weights, PANDORA LOVEGOOD {ODDS:1188209354:SP} is another who catches the eye. She won over course and distance at this meeting last year and I’ll give her a pass for her first run of the season last time, which would have put her spot on for this.

BARRY LYNDON {ODDS:1188211221:SP} was a huge 40/1 when he won on his debut at Punchestown. He was unfancied that day but showed it wasn’t a complete fluke when second behind a good horse called Pink In The Park on his next start. This trip is the best part of 2m5f and that will clearly suit him well. He only got rolling at the end of the race at Wexford and looks like he’ll be each-way value (16:30).

The Galway Hurdle is the big one of the day (17:05). I think it’ll go to JP McManus, but not with Filey Bay, who has been well fancied by plenty in the lead up. I’m a big fan of BRAZIL {ODDS:1188164881:13/2}, who remains on a very workable mark. He’s had a quiet year, but his run last time at Killarney was eye-catching and it would have put him bang on for this.

The other horse I like in the race is GLAN {ODDS:1188164896:9/1}. She’s a strong-travelling mare who has snuck in at the bottom of the weights. She was fourth in the race last year and is now 5lb higher, which has been offset by Danny Gilligan’s claim. She’s got good place prospects.
