Our tipster reveals his four best bets for Wetherby, Leopardstown, Kempton and Chepstow on Friday to make up an each-way Lucky 15.
I think BLACK PIRATE looks the best bet to kick things off at Wetherby.
He has two wins and one second from three runs so far, including a victory over course and distance on debut, but hasn’t been seen since April 2018.
The seven-year-old looked like he had the stamina for 2m, so I’m hopeful his jumping is up to scratch. He should be the one to beat.
A Beginners Chase is up next where, I have to take a chance on CITY ISLAND .
He was superb over hurdles last season with notable victories here, in Naas and in a really hard-fought battle to win the Ballymore ahead of Champ.
He finished the season with a disappointing showing at Punchestown in Grade 1 company but I can forgive that run.
I think he looks suited to fences and this could be the start of a successful Chasing career.
We move across to Kempton for Grade 2 action, where I think AL DANCER can get the better of Fanion D’estruval.
He’s another who had some notable performances last year over hurdles. His chasing debut was a smart victory at Cheltenham, followed by finishing as a runner-up to Put the Kettle On in the Arkle Trial.
I’ve been impressed with his jumping, so hopefully Sam Twiston-Davies can follow up after his success in the King George.
We finish off with the Welsh National. After backing him last year, I’m going to keep faith with YALA ENKI .
It was a valiant effort when he finished third here 12 months ago, and he is now under the stewardship of Paul Nicholls.
The nine-year-old was slightly flat in the Ladbrokes Trophy last month but I think he has the engine to go the distance and will handle the soft conditions.
