As is impressively evident, de Boinville has struck up a significant partnership with iconic Cheltenham trainer Nicky Henderson.

Nico de Boinville’s most notable Cheltenham wins

De Boinville’s Gold Cup win in 2015 might have been his first win at the Festival, but it was also his most prestigious to date. He has also added three wins in the Queen Mother Champion Chase and a Champion Hurdle win riding Constitution Hill in 2023.

Gold Cup

Little over a year into his professional jockeying career, de Boinville rode Coneygree to Gold Cup glory. Pre-race odds priced Coneygree at 7/1, which was tied for the second-shortest price behind the 3/1 favourite Silviniaco Conti.

It was a phenomenal achievement for the horse and de Boinville. Coneygree was the first novice to win the Gold Cup since 1974 as the thoroughbred finished a length and a half ahead of Djakadam.

Queen Mother Champion Chase

De Boinville rode three Queen Mother Champion Chase winners in a four-year period. Starting the spell with Sprinter Sacre in 2016, de Boinville then went back-to-back with Altior in 2018 and 2019.

Priced at 5/1 before the race, Sprinter Sacre cruised to victory. Meanwhile, Altior was favoured on both occasions, winning emphatically in 2018 and coming back in the second half of the race to win in 2019.

Champion Hurdle

Constitution Hill was the 4/11 pre-race favourite, and de Boinville ensured the horse lived up to expectations with a dominant ride in the 2023 Champion Hurdle. The race was won by nine lengths.

Where does Nico de Boinville rank among Cheltenham’s most successful jockeys?

De Boinville is tied for the 10th-most wins at Cheltenham Festival. He’s level with Charlie Swan and Fred Winter on 17 wins apiece, but sits just behind Richard Dunwoody and Rachael Blackmore by a single win heading into the 2026 Festival.

With Blackmore retired from racing, and, given that he’s projected to compete in at least three races, there’s every chance de Boinville climbs the list of the most successful Cheltenham jockeys this year. He would move into eighth position with two wins.

Old Park Star and Jango Baie – both expected to be ridden by de Boinville – are fancied in their respective races, while Constitution Hill has plenty of Cheltenham pedigree.

Will we see any Nico de Boinville Cheltenham winners in 2026?

It’s time to take a look ahead to the upcoming Cheltenham Festival and ponder whether de Boinville will be adding to his historic record at the event. Current reports indicates de Boinville is likely to ride Old Park Star, Jango Baie, and Constitution Hill in the Supreme Novices’ Chase, Gold Cup, and Champion Hurdle, respectively.

Old Park Star

The betting favourite for the Supreme Novices’ Chase, Old Park Star is heavily fancied for the opening race of the Festival. De Boinville has ridden Old Park Star to three wins in three races.

This, at the time of writing, is de Boinville’s best chance of adding to his catalogue of Cheltenham wins.
