Dan Skelton is quickly becoming a leading name in British horse training. Learn more about which Cheltenham winners he’s trained with our handy guide.

The son of Olympian Nick Skelton, and the older brother of 2020/21 British Champion jump jockey Harry Skelton, Dan Skelton is quickly becoming one of the top horse trainers in Britain. He claimed his first victory at Cheltenham in 2016, but his repertoire of winners has grown considerably in recent years.

Let’s take a look at how many winners Dan Skelton has trained at Cheltenham over the years, as well as highlighting some of the most important races of his career. Below is our recap of all of Dan Skelton’s Cheltenham winners, from 2016 to the present day:

How many winners has Dan Skelton had at the Cheltenham Festival?

The most recent Dan Skelton-trained Cheltenham Winner is The New Lion, who claimed victory in the 2025 Baring Bingham Novices’ Hurdle. Like with most of his winners, it was his brother, Harry, who rode him over the finish line. Here’s all of Dan Skelton’s Cheltenham winners, from his most recent victory to his first:

Where does Dan Skelton rank among Cheltenham’s most successful trainers?

While Dan Skelton is one of the top trainers in recent years, he doesn’t quite break into the list of Cheltenham’s most successful trainers of all time. With 11 total wins, he’ll need 15 more to match the records of Jonjo O’Neill and Tom Dreaper, who tie in ninth place.

Despite not breaking into the top ten, Skelton’s record still rivals that of other successful current trainers. He only needs 6 more wins to equal Nigel Twiston-Davies’ Cheltenham winners, or 10 more to tie with Henry de Bromhead.

Curiously, over the last three editions of the Festival, only Willie Mullins has more Cheltenham winners than Dan Skelton – who has 7 wins since 2023, the same as Gordon Elliott and more than Henry de Bromhead.

Will we see any Dan Skelton Cheltenham winners in 2026?

Many experts have predicted that Dan Skelton’s horse, The New Lion, will be involved in a heated head-to-head against rival trainer Nicky Henderson and his latest prospect, Sir Gino. The two horses are among the favourites in the Champion Hurdle betting this year.

Another of Dan Skelton’s horses to look out for is Grey Dawning, who could potentially stage a huge upset in the Cheltenham Gold Cup betting odds. While many analysts expect this year’s race to be a tight field between the two previous champions, Inothewayurthinkin and Galopin Des Champs, an outsider win for Grey Dawning could earn Skelton his first victory in the Festival’s most prestigious race.

Maestro Conti could earn a victory for Dan Skelton at Prestbury Park this year, with the Triumph Hurdle betting odds setting him as one of the favourites to claim a win. Panic Attack is also expected to compete at Cheltenham, with ante-post odds setting her as a strong outsider choice in both the Mares’ Chase and Ryanair Chase.
