Henry de Bromhead’s most notable Cheltenham wins
Every Cheltenham Festival win is significant, but some are inevitably more prestigious than others. De Bromhead, for instance, has two Gold Cups to his name, along with a pair of wins in the Champion Hurdle and four wins in the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
Champion Hurdle
Trained by de Bromhead, Honeysuckle won the Champion Hurdle in 2021 and 2022: Blackmore became the first ever female jockey to win the Champion Hurdle in 2021, defeating Sharjah by six and a half lengths. In 2022, ridden once again by Blackmore, Honeysuckle tracked down the leaders to win by three and a half lengths.
Gold Cup
De Bromhead became only the fourth trainer to win consecutive Gold Cups with different horses. Winning with Minella Indo in 2021, de Bromhead was celebrating again in 2022 when A Plus Tard won by 15 lengths – where, incidentally, Rachael Blackmore made history by becoming the first female jockey to win the Gold Cup.
Queen Mother Champion Chase
De Bromhead won the Queen Mother Champion Chase with Sizing Europe, Special Tiara, Put The Kettle On, and Captain Guinness in 2011, 2017, 2021, and 2024, respectively.
Four different jockeys – Rachael Blackmore, Andrew Lynch, Noel Fehily, and Aidan Coleman – rode de Bromhead’s Champion Chase winners.
Where does Henry de Bromhead rank among Cheltenham’s most successful trainers?
Ten trainers have more Cheltenham wins than de Bromhead. That could change in 2026, of course, with de Bromhead only needing four wins to overtake seventh-placed Fred Winter.
Given that de Bromhead has had at least two wins at each Festival since 2018, it seems inevitable he will break into the top 10 most successful Cheltenham trainers this year. There’s a good chance he’s in the top six by 2028.
Will we see any Henry de Bromhead Cheltenham winners in 2026?
If you look at de Bromhead’s track record, it certainly suggests there will be at least one winner in 2026. And you have to go all the way back to 2018 for the last time de Bromhead had less than two winners at the Festival. Here are some of his top prospects in 2026:
Monty’s Star
A fourth-placed finish in the 2025 Gold Cup makes Monty’s Star a horse to watch in 2026. De Bromhead has confirmed the horse’s place in the Gold Cup field after what was an incredibly encouraging run in 2025 with impressive jumping and good endurance.
Don’t write Monty’s Star off purely on age. De Bromhead’s yard has carefully managed his workload so he’s got plenty of energy left in those legs.
Heart Wood
Look out for Heart Wood in the Ryanair Chase; this is one of de Bromhead’s best chances of a 2026 Cheltenham winner. Envoi Allen, a former winner in this race, is also a member of the field, though is a bit more of an outsider.
Quilixios
Inthepocket, Captain Guinness, and Quilixios are de Bromhead’s horses in the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
The latter has the shortest odds of the trio, with Inthepocket and Captain Guinness sitting a little longer.
Bob Olinger
De Bromhead has two horses in the 2026 Stayers’ Hurdle. Bob Olinger has the shortest odds of the two, with Hiddenvalley Lake considered a longer shot at the time of writing.
Olinger has finished in the top two in his last eight races, and he’s looking to make it consecutive wins in the Stayers’ Hurdle.
Workahead
An outsider in the Champion Hurdle, Workahead hasn’t raced since finishing 11th in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the 2025 Festival.
There was considerable optimism around Workahead’s chances last year. The question is whether his endurance has improved sufficiently after tailing off in the second half of last year’s race.
