Logician takes the final Classic of the season

Before the St Leger, I wasn’t overly confident on Logician’s chances, despite his status as a short-priced favourite.

One easy victory in the Great Voltigeur aside, John Gosden’s horse seemed very raw with a lot still to prove.

However, he was given another brilliant ride by Frankie Dettori and ended up landing the Group 1 in relatively easy fashion.

He certainly has the makings of a lovely four-year-old over the longer trips.

Pinatubo for the 2000 Guineas?

Pinatubo blew everyone away with his success in the National Stakes in Ireland and is now a favourite for the 2000 Guineas next May.

I was against him before that race and still think he’s very short for the big one at Newmarket.

However, we’re now in the middle of September and nothing has emerged that looks capable of getting anywhere near him this season.

He’s still got one more race – and an entire winter and spring – to navigate before the opening Classic rolls around in 2020.

I stand by my opinion that, if anything beats him, then we haven’t seen it run yet.

Can Magical topple Enable?

Magical was a good winner of the Irish Champion Stakes on Saturday.

She should go well in the Arc as she always gives her all and her master trainer Aidan O’Brien will have her cherry ripe for the big day.

However, she’s just not on the same level as Enable. The only thing that can stop John Gosden’s mare from winning at Longchamp is if she’s a non-runner.

One to watch

There is a great card at Sandown Park on Wednesday where we will see the return of King of Change, this year’s second in the 2000 Guineas second.

Also on the same card, Palace Pier runs for just the second time in his career after a very good winning debut at the Esher course a little under three weeks ago.
