Andrew Balding Betway blog: York Ebor runners Saturday 20 08 2022 (2)

The Betway ambassador previews his 11 runners on Saturday, including four at the York Ebor Festival.

Masekela {ODDS:984657955:16/1} (13:50 York) has been a bit disappointing since the Derby but perhaps we have been misled by that run. He was probably staying on past beaten horses, as opposed to truly staying the trip. He’s always had plenty of class and still retains it, so we hope the drop back in trip can see him become competitive again.

Frankness {ODDS:984705908:SP} (13:55 Chester) won well at Chester last time and shouldn’t be far away again with Harry Davies’ claim negating his penalty.

Bounce The Blues {ODDS:984718036:SP} (14:05 Sandown) has been relatively unlucky this year. She had a poor draw at Goodwood, so she ran well considering that. As long as the ground doesn’t dry up too much, she’d have a competitive chance at a level that’s she’s often performed well at.

Soul Stopper {ODDS:984658039:13/2} (14:25 York) won very well at Chester last time. He’s gone up a fair bit in the weights and he might be vulnerable to a few of the improvers who are in at the bottom of the weights.

The Foxes {ODDS:984718015:SP} (14:40 Sandown) runs in the Solario. We’ve always thought a fair bit of him, so it was good for him to put his disappointing run in the Chesham behind him with a good performance at Goodwood. This is always a tough race to win, so he’ll need to improve.

Sandrine {ODDS:984658072:9/2} (15:00 York) won well at Goodwood and this race is basically a bit of a re-run of that contest. She ran well in the Lowther.

Typewriter {ODDS:984708757:SP} (15:05 Chester) would really appreciate more rain. She’s a grand filly who loves soft ground and seems in good form at home. She would certainly have good place prospects in her conditions.

Valley Forge {ODDS:984658189:18/1} (15:35 York) has got a wildcard for the Ebor but, as a result, he’s running from out of the handicap. He’s a very capable horse, who was a good winner of the Melrose last year. His two runs of late could be marked up as better than the finishing position suggests so I do think he could run well.

Good Birthday {ODDS:984718028:SP} (15:50 Sandown) has been consistent all year and deserves a change of fortune. The handicapper seems to have got him in his grasp, but he gives his best and will likely run with credit again.

Orange Martini {ODDS:984717985:SP} (16:25 Sandown) ran well enough at Newbury first time out. This slightly stiffer 7f should suit her and she should go well given normal improvement from first run to second.

Sudden Ambush {ODDS:984702155:SP} (18:35 Chelmsford) ran well at York on his debut. He just got tired then but has come on for that run.
