Andrew Balding Betway blog: Doncaster, Epsom, Southwell 08 09 22

The Betway ambassador previews his runners on the second day of the Doncaster St Leger Festival, as well as three at Epsom and Southwell.

We’ve always liked Holguin {ODDS:996735381:11/1} (14:00) and thought he had a great chance in the Coventry at Royal Ascot. It didn’t work out for him that day, but we’ve given him plenty of time since and his work is coming back to the level it was prior to Ascot. He’s a little unexposed but he has the natural ability to go well.

Frankness {ODDS:996735341:4/1} (14:35) is a lovely filly. She’s got a bit to find on official ratings, but was so impressive at Chester last time, where she broke the course record. She has to step up to mix it at this level, though.

Harrow {ODDS:996740002:11/1} (15:45) has had a break since his last run at Royal Ascot. Now he’s been gelded we hope that he can become a little more focused on his racing. He’s a high-class horse on his day. He won a big sales race at this meeting 12 months ago, so we’re hoping for similar luck this year.

Masekela {ODDS:996740010:SP} (16:20) runs in a three-horse race and if Adayar is anywhere he near his best, he’ll be tough to beat. Obviously, it is last year’s Derby winner’s first run of the season and he’s giving us weight, so you never know.

Napper Tandy {ODDS:996735322:SP} (14:15) is another who hasn’t achieved what he should have done this year. His sister liked Epsom and soft ground so we’re hopeful that these conditions suit him, too.

Eikonix {ODDS:996730640:SP} (14:50) has not been finishing his races off properly, but we’ve been happy with him at home of late and we think a slower surface on turf could suit him well.

Bizarre Law {ODDS:996744561:SP} (18:15) was a bit disappointing last time, but it was a muddling race. This track and a bigger field will suit him better.
