TOP PICK: MAGGIES ANGEL
Second choice: Lady Freyja
This is a competitive sprint handicap for female horses.
All of the runners look pretty exposed and have raced plenty of times already this season. Eight of the scheduled 10 runners have been winners in the calendar year so there won’t be many secrets from the handicapper.
I’m really interested by big outsider MAGGIES ANGEL.
She ran in a Group 3 earlier in the season and has since had the excuse of soft ground and extended distance. Six furlongs on good-to-firm ground looks to be her optimum and I’d expect a bold show at a big price.

TOP PICK: KODYANNA
Second choice: Rathbone
This is another six furlong race, but this time for juvenile horses in their first season of Flat racing.
The draw stats of past renewals favour the middle stalls.
Favourites have a fair record in that period with four wins, while the second favourite has accounted for three winners in that time. Winning outsiders are rare.
Another Richard Fahey horse takes my fancy at a nice price.
KODYANNA can blame the heavy ground for her defeat in a Group 3 at Ayr last time, it was the third time her trainer had aimed her at a group race. Under these conditions she must have a good chance at this Listed level.

TOP PICK: WIND CHIMES
Second choice: Laurens
In this Group 1 for female horses, French-raider WIND CHIMES could start as favourite and she comes to Newmarket off the back of a great run at Longchamp. Trainer Andre Fabre won this race in 2015.
Laurens will no doubt push her close after a superb win in Ireland last time out.

TOP PICK: FIRMAMENT
Second choice: Growl
We’ve left the toughest race until last on 4 to Win, it’s roughly 7/1 the field at early prices.
FIRMAMENT is getting on a bit now, but ran a good race in this contest in 2016 when runner-up. He seems to be back to a fair level of form and looks weighted to compete.
