The 125th US Open takes place at Oakmont Country Club this week with a star-studded field battling it out for Major glory.
The scene is set for ‘golf’s toughest test’ at this week’s 125th US Open at Oakmont Country Club, which will stage the third Major of the season for a record 10th time.
Historically set up to be the most difficult of the four Majors, the US Open leaves little room for error in a player’s game and a return to Oakmont, a course that last hosted the 2016 edition, should make for a devilishly difficult tournament.
A restoration by Gil Hanse in 2023-24 has seen an extra 250 yards added to the course, the greens have been expanded with the edges of them more like table-tops, and several of the bunkers have been restored, making this a par-70 measuring 7,372 yards.
Here are our US Open betting selections for the third major of the season.
US Open tips
Shane Lowry to win and each-way 33/1
Sepp Straka to win and each-way 33/1
Russell Henley to win and each-way 50/1
Lowry to banish 2016 memories
Irishman Shane Lowry let the 2016 US Open at Oakmont slip out of his hands, as he held a two-shot heading into the fourth round before proceeding to card a six-over-par 76, seeing him finish in a share for second place.
The 38-year-old made up for that Major heartache by landing the 2019 Open at Royal Portrush, which will stage the 2025 edition, while he has also added a PGA Tour title and two DP World Tour victories to his CV since.
Lowry has been close to tasting success this season, having registered two runners-up finishes, two top-10s and three top-20 results, and he is a player that seems to thrive when the courses are set up tough.
The County Offaly-born star ranks second for strokes gained tee-to-green and approach, while he boasts one of the best short games, and he looks capable of landing Major number two this week.
Tip 1: Shane Lowry to win and each-way @ 33/1
Straka to make Major breakthrough
Austrian Sepp Straka has taken his game to another level this season with two PGA Tour victories – at the American Express and Truist Championship – taking his tally on the US circuit to four in total.
The 32-year-old, who looks almost guaranteed to be part of Europe’s Ryder Cup team later this year, was third on his last start at The Memorial and he arrives at Oakmont fresh having taken last week off.
Ranking first in greens in regulation and in the top five for strokes gained tee-to-green, approach and total, Straka, who is also eighth in putting average, looks ready to make his Major mark.
Tip 2: Sepp Straka to win and each-way @ 33/1
Henley can land maiden Major
Another player chasing his maiden Major this week is Russell Henley, who took his number of PGA Tour wins to five in March when winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
The 36-year-old American, who was tied-fifth on his last outing at The Memorial, ranks in the top 20 for strokes gained tee-to-green, approach and around-the-green, and is also 10th in GIR.
Accurate off the tee with a ranking of 14th in driving accuracy, Henley has all the skills required to lift the US Open trophy.
Tip 3: Russell Henley to win and each-way @ 50/1
