The excitement is building ahead of the 2025 Ryder Cup, which takes place at Bethpage Black in New York, where Europe will be defending the trophy.
The 45th edition of the Ryder Cup will take place this weekend, as the United States and Europe do battle at Bethpage Black in New York.
Europe will look to retain the trophy they won in Rome two years ago, but they will have to buck the trend on American soil.
The US team has won the last two matches in their own country, but Luke Donald’s experienced team has a great chance to end that run.
Here are our Ryder Cup tips before this year’s event gets underway.
Outright Winner – Europe to win @ 6/4
No fewer than 11 of the 12 European players selected were part of the winning team at Marco Simone Country Club in 2023.
The only change sees Rasmus Hojgaard replace his brother Nicolai, with the captain keen to keep the core of a successful team together.
Nine of the squad play their golf on the PGA Tour and that could also be significant, as they look to end the run of home victories.
You have to go back to the ‘Miracle of Medinah’ in 2012 for the last time Europe won in the USA – with the last two encounters on American soil seeing Europe lose 17-11 at Hazeltine in 2016 and then 19-9 at Whistling Straits in 2021.
They face a US team that have had a big upheaval since the defeat in Italy two years ago, but that still includes seven of the world’s top-10 players.
There will be four rookies in the American camp, though, and that could prove significant on what is the hardest course to host the event.
Bethpage Black has staged two US Opens and a PGA Championship and was named the Golf Advisor toughest US course in 2020.
Tip 1: Outright Winner – Europe to win @ 6/4
Top European Points Scorer – Tommy Fleetwood @ 11/2
Europe’s two in-form players heading to Bethpage are Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood, and the Englishman offers better value in the top European Points Scorer market.
Fleetwood has been on the winning side in two of the three Ryder Cups he has played in, boasting a win-loss-halve record of 7-3-2 to give him a total of eight points.
The world number seven won the Tour Championship last month for his PGA Tour breakthrough, having claimed three top-10 and one top-20 finishes in the five previous tournaments.
Tip 2: Top European Points Scorer – Tommy Fleetwood @ 11/2
Top US Points Scorer – Sam Burns @ 11/1
He may have needed a wildcard selection from Keegan Bradley, but Sam Burns goes into this Ryder Cup in fine form.
Burns has carded 10 sub-70 rounds in his last three events, finishing T4 at the BMW Championship, T7 at the Tour Championship before recording a T13 finish at the Procore Championship last week.
The 29-year-old played his first Ryder Cup in Italy two years ago and that experience will stand him in good stead.
Burns won just one point, a four-ball victory alongside Collin Morikawa, but was unlucky to be drawn to face Rory McIlroy in the singles, which he lost 3&1.
The world number 23, who won the 2023 WGC Matchplay tournament, is a close friend of Scottie Scheffler and looks likely to partner the Open champion.
Tip 3: Top US Points Scorer – Sam Burns @ 11/1
