With the Ryder Cup on the agenda later in 2025, we look back and rundown some of the biggest margins of victory in the unrivalled team competition.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will take place at Bethpage Black in New York in September as Team Europe takes on Team USA two years after winning at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome.

Some players have already qualified for this year’s event, with Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood already part of Luke Donald’s team. The trio are likely to be joined by the likes of Robert MacIntyre, Tyrrell Hatton and Sepp Straka, while USA captain Keegan Bradley has seen Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun and Xander Schauffele automatically qualify for this year’s event.

With spots in the teams still up for grabs, we take a look back at some of the most impressive overall team performances in previous Ryder Cups.

Ranking the biggest Ryder Cup victories of all time

1. United States 23.5-8.5 Great Britain & Ireland (1967 Ryder Cup – Champions Golf Club, Houston)

The largest margin of victory in any Ryder Cup came in 1967. Back then, 32 points were up for grabs, which is not the case now in the modern era, where 28 points are on the line.

The hosts prevailed on home soil in Texas, with Ben Hogan captaining the United States to a landslide victory. Hogan selected the likes of Billy Casper, Arnold Palmer and Gene Littler to get the job done and they delivered in style as Great Britain and Ireland struggled on their travels.

2. United States 23-9 Great Britain (1963 Ryder Cup – Atlanta Athletic Club, Atlanta)

Four years earlier, the United States had won by 14 points in Georgia, with Arnold Palmer captaining the team. Palmer was the last playing captain in the competition, and he won three of his four matches at the event.

Dow Finsterwald enjoyed a 5-2 record, while Peter Alliss tried in vain to help his Great Britain team out. Alliss played in 10 matches, but he only won three of those at Atlanta Athletic Club.

The USA did not lose a single match in the afternoon sessions and there’s no doubt they deserved their victory.

3. United States 19-9 Europe (2021 Ryder Cup – Whistling Straits, Wisconsin)

United States captain Steve Stricker prioritised youth for the trip to Wisconsin as he named the youngest USA team in history.

The USA’s 19-9 success is the biggest in the modern era of the Ryder Cup and it was Europe’s biggest defeat since they changed their team to Continental Europe in 1979.

After some stunning golf in front of a passionate crowd, the United States won back-to-back Ryder Cups for the first time since 1979 and 1983.

Dustin Johnson, who was playing some of the best golf of his career at the time, won all five of his matches to win five points, while Collin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlay won 3.5 each.

Spain’s Jon Rahm tried his best after winning 3.5 points from four matches, while fellow countryman Sergio Garcia won three points from four outings.

In the end, the United States outclassed and outfought Europe and they will hope for a similar outcome this year.

4. United States 21-11 Europe (1975 Ryder Cup – Laurel Valley Golf Club, Westmoreland County)

Another 10-point victory came in 1975 in Pennsylvania as Palmer guided the United States to victory. The likes of Casper, Hale Irwin, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino all featured for the hosts and they all scored at least 2.5 points.

Only Peter Oosterhuis managed to score more than 2.5 points for Great Britain and Ireland, with the Englishman scoring 3.5 points from six matches.

The hosts’ win was one of 13 successive Ryder Cups where the United States failed to lose. From 1959 until 1983, the US won 12 and drew one Ryder Cup.

Since 1995, Europe have had the better of things in the event but there’s no doubting the United States’s dominance when it comes to record victories in the competition.
