Premier League tips: Best bets for Sunday

James Mason's best bets for Sunday include the big game between Arsenal and Manchester City.

With the domestic season taking another short break after this set of fixtures for the latest round of international matches, all the teams featuring on Sunday will be eager to sign off with a victory.

Best bets

Brighton v Liverpool – Half With Most Goals – 2nd Half – 19/20

West Ham to beat Newcastle – 12/5

Wolves to beat Aston Villa – 23/10

Manchester City to beat Arsenal – 11/8

Brighton & Hove Albion v Liverpool (14:00)

Brighton and Liverpool both head into this contest at the Amex Stadium following Europa League excursions on Thursday and it would be no surprise if the duo failed to produce their best form in the first half.

The Reds have two enforced changes to make, with Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota suspended, while Stefan Bajcetic, Thiago Alcantara and Cody Gakpo are all missing due to injury and this increases the chance of a potentially disjointed performance in the opening 45 minutes.

For both Liverpool and Brighton the goals have flowed in the second half, with the second period of the Seagulls’ four home Premier League matches this season seeing more strikes than the first 45 minutes.

It is a similar story for the Reds, with the second half seeing the most goals in three of their five away matches across all competitions.

West Ham United v Newcastle United (14:00)

Newcastle will still be riding high following their 4-1 Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening, but they could be brought back down to earth against an in-form West Ham.

The Magpies had to put so much effort in that triumph over PSG and they are the walking wounded right now, with Sven Botman, Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock all injured, while there are doubts over Callum Wilson and Joelinton.

Anthony Gordon is also missing due to suspension and Newcastle’s depleted squad may struggle to overcome West Ham, who have won three of their four home games across all competitions this season.

The Hammers also head into this fresh off making European history, having become the first English side to go 17 consecutive games in European competition without defeat, and confidence is high within the squad.

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Aston Villa (14:00)

Wolves had been performing well this season without getting the results they deserved, but that changed last weekend when they defeated the Citizens 2-1 at Molineux for their second league win of the campaign.

Gary O’Neil’s side will have taken a huge amount of confidence from that victory and they now entertain an Aston Villa team that were made to work hard for their 1-0 Europa League win on Thursday.

Unai Emery’s visitors have had little time to prepare for this trip to Molineux, a stadium they have lost at on their last two trips.

Arsenal v Manchester City (16:30)

Two title contenders clash at the Emirates on Sunday as Arsenal entertain table-toppers Manchester City in the final game of the day.

The Gunners lost 2-1 in Lens in midweek, a blow in the early knockings of their Champions League campaign, but the bigger worry was the hamstring injury sustained by Bukayo Saka.

Mikel Arteta revealed the England international is in contention after escaping any serious injury, but he stopped short of confirming whether he will definitely be in the squad.

A Saka-less Arsenal already missing Gabriel Martinelli could, therefore, struggle against a City side that won 3-1 in Leipzig on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola’s men have won the last 12 league meetings against the Gunners by an aggregate score of 33-5, and City can land another blow against their title rivals.
