Premier League tips: Best bets for Man Utd v Liverpool

Rob Eddy's selections for Sunday's clash at Old Trafford include a win for the visitors with an in-form midfielder finding the net.

Following their routine win over Sheffield United on Thursday night, Liverpool can guarantee top spot at the end of Premier League gameweek 31 but they will need to take advantage of their arch-rivals’ fragile state at Old Trafford.

Manchester United, in contrast to their high-flying visitors, suffered yet another embarrassing collapse in midweek as they let a 3-2 lead slip to lose 4-3 against Chelsea, conceding twice deep into injury time.

The Red Devils are now 11 points off the top four and staring down the barrel of another dismal campaign, while their rivals are chasing a trophy-laden season to send Jurgen Klopp off on a high.

Reds will be left sitting pretty

Liverpool head into gameweek 31 of the Premier League season with a two-point advantage over their closest title rivals and they can be backed to hold on to top spot when they visit their struggling rivals on Sunday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp’s side lost in extra-time at Old Trafford last month but they have won 10 of their last 12 games in the Premier League, dropping points only to Arsenal and Manchester City in this period.

However, they have conceded in eight of their last nine top-flight matches and Manchester United’s problems tend to be in defence rather than attack, as illustrated by their dramatic 4-3 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.

That was the Red Devils’ 12th league defeat of the season, but they have scored in each of their last 16 games in all competitions and should be able to find the net in defeat.

Mac Allister’s purple patch to continue

Last summer’s arrival of Alexis Mac Allister was not done with attack as the primary concern but the World Cup winner has impressed in this regard and he could strike at Old Trafford again on Sunday.

The 25-year-old scored Liverpool’s first goal here last month and found the net with an absolute scorcher from the edge of the box in midweek.

That wonder goal made it four goals and three assists in his last six competitive appearances and he looks a good price to add to his tally against a defence that has shipped 11 goals in their last five in all competitions.

Salah to contribute to goal-fest

Mac Allister is unlikely to be the only goalscorer at Old Trafford and Mohamed Salah is a justified favourite to get on the scoresheet in what could prove to be a thriller.

The Liverpool talisman also scored at Old Trafford last month and now has an incredible 13 goals in 14 meetings with Manchester United.

Three of Manchester United’s last five outings have produced at least four goals and Liverpool have seen over 3.5 goals land in three of their last four, so expect plenty of entertainment in the north west.
