Mythbusters: 4 Premier League coupon-busters to swerve this weekend

Both Manchester clubs feature among the top-tier sides that we think could unexpectedly drop points over Saturday and Sunday...

Myth: Manchester United to beat West Ham

Manchester United appear to have improved in recent weeks, and will expect to beat West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

But Jose Mourinho’s side – for all of their encouraging performances – have still only won one of their last six league matches.

And their recent record against West Ham is not the best, either.

The Reds have won just one of their last five meetings with the Hammers and failed to beat them in two attempts at Old Trafford last season.

The Hammers were unlucky not to claim at least a point at Tottenham last week, and are available at {ODDS:120378430:8/5} to avoid defeat this weekend.

Myth: Chelsea to stay top with Tottenham win

Chelsea are on a run of six straight victories without conceding a goal, and are heavy favourites to beat an out-of-sorts Tottenham this weekend.

But Spurs do seem to up their game when local derbies come around.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have lost just one of their last 14 meetings against London clubs, while Harry Kane has scored 18 goals in his last 22 games against the same group of sides.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have only won one of their last four matches against Tottenham.

The Blues were heavily beaten in their last game against north London opposition – losing 3-0 to Arsenal in September – and can be backed at {ODDS:120376350:1/1} not to win this game, either.

Myth: Baggies’ winning run to continue at Hull

West Brom have won their last two league matches and are now into the top half of the Premier League table.

But their record against Hull suggests that good run may be about to end.

The Baggies have won just two of their last eight matches against Hull, and have failed to claim three points on any of their last three trips to the KC Stadium.

In addition, Tony Pulis’ side have only won once away from home since the opening day of the season.

The visitors have not won three consecutive Premier League games since November 2012, and Hull are available at {ODDS:120374123:8/15} to extend that record.

Myth: Guardiola’s City to cruise at Burnley

Manchester City have still only been beaten once in the league this season, and are big favourites to win at Burnley on Saturday lunchtime.

But the hosts have lost just one of their last four matches against City and scored in each of the sides’ last six meetings.

That includes a 1-0 victory when the teams last met in March 2015, and a 2-2 draw at the Etihad in December 2014 when Sean Dyche’s side came back from two goals down.

Burnley’s home record is excellent this season, too.

They have lost just one of their last six matches – including victories over three of the Premier League’s current top eight and an unfortunate defeat against Arsenal.

The Clarets are available at appealing odds of {ODDS:120373625:12/5} not to lose this game.
