Football tips: A 17/1 acca for Saturday’s international games

Saturday's international acca includes a win for Croatia against Scotland and Robert Lewandowski to find the net against Portugal.

There are eight Nations League matches to look forward to on Saturday, with last year’s finalists Spain and Croatia both in action.

La Roja take on Denmark though it’s Croatia’s showdown with Scotland in Zagreb which will provide the first leg of a Saturday four-fold.

The acca, if successful, will return at around 17/1 with Betway.

Croatia v Scotland (5pm)

Scotland are finding life tough in Nations League A and a third straight defeat is likely on the cards at the Maksimir Stadium in Zagreb.

Two countries who couldn’t find a win between them at Euro 2024 in the summer have been determined to start their Nations League campaigns in style.

And while Croatia were unlucky to lose 2-1 in Portugal in their opener, they bounced back well to pip Poland 1-0 in Osijek last time.

Scotland have certainly been competitive, losing narrowly to Poland (2-3) and Portugal (1-2), but five goals conceded in two games will be a worry for Steve Clarke, whose squad has been ravaged by injuries.

Croatia, finalists in this competition last year, have got most of their big guns available and they should have too much nous for the out-of-form Scots.

Bulgaria v Luxembourg (5pm)

It’s 30 years since Bulgaria were World Cup semi-finalists and while any repeat of that heyday looks fanciful, there are signs they are beginning to emerge from the international wilderness.

Bulgaria haven’t qualified for a major finals since Euro 2024 but they are making distinct progress under new coach Ilian Iliev, who is unbeaten after 11 months in the job.

Iliev’s record reads two wins and six draws in eight matches and he can make it three wins in nine by guiding his team past Luxembourg in a Nations League C encounter.

Luxembourg are bottom of the group following a 2-0 loss at Northern Ireland and 1-0 defeat by Belarus last month. On the same nights, Bulgaria were drawing 0-0 with Belarus and beating Northern Ireland 1-0.

Bulgaria have conceded only two goals in six matches throughout 2024 while Luxembourg have failed to find the net in five of their last six outings.

Poland v Portugal (7.45pm)

Two of world football’s greatest goalscorers go toe-to-toe in Warsaw, where Robert Lewandowski’s Poland take on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.

Portugal have enjoyed two 2-1 home wins but this is a tricky trip and we know Lewandowski is at his deadliest for his country when the stakes are slightly lower.

The Barcelona frontman has notched 84 international goals, the last of which came against Scotland last month and the next of which can come on Saturday.

Serbia v Switzerland (7.45pm)

Serbia have scored one goal in their last five internationals and, without Dusan Vlahovic, they are going to struggle to improve on that record against the Swiss, who have lost both their group games and only managed one goal.

But the idea that this is automatically a low-scorer flies in the face of previous meetings – their two showdowns in the last six years have amassed eight goals – and the fact there is very little love lost between them.

Expect the match to be fractious, error-strewn and full of goals.
