Kai Havertz

Club: Bayer Leverkusen

Age: 20

Nationality: Germany

Position: Attacking midfielder

Linked teams: Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United

Havertz is the name on everyone’s lips.

The Leverkusen prodigy is being talked about as a generational talent in Germany after a season in which he has scored 14 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions.

His form has attracted the attention of not just the biggest clubs in England, but the biggest clubs across Europe, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich all reportedly interested.

Described as a hybrid between Michael Ballack and Mesut Ozil, Havertz could easily find a home at any of the Premier League’s top clubs this summer.

Mario Gotze

media

Club: Borussia Dortmund

Age: 27

Nationality: Germany

Position: Attacking midfielder/Striker

Linked teams: Everton, West Ham

It may come as a surprise to many that Gotze is still just 27 years old.

It feels as though the Dortmund forward has been around forever, with his World Cup-winning volley in 2014 catapulting him to global stardom at the age of just 22.

Gotze has endured a tough few years since that moment, with an unsuccessful three seasons at Bayern Munich seeing him return to his former club, where he has struggled for fitness and regular minutes.

With it now confirmed that Dortmund will not renew his contract, Gotze could be a shrewd free transfer for several Premier League sides this summer, with big spending unlikely to be possible.

Timo Werner

Club: RB Leipzig

Age: 24

Nationality: Germany

Position: Striker

Linked teams: Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United

Werner is quickly developing into one of the world’s premier goalscorers.

The Leipzig striker has scored 30 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions this season, and has now outgrown his surroundings in Saxony.

A move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs this summer looks inevitable, with a £52million release clause representing a bargain for one lucky suitor.

Liverpool currently look his likeliest destination, with Jurgen Klopp a big admirer, but there are a number of other clubs keen from across Europe.

Dayot Upamecano

Club: RB Leipzig

Age: 21

Nationality: France

Position: CB

Linked teams: Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham

While Werner provides Leipzig with their firepower up front, it is Upamecano who provides their stability at the back.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after youngsters following four seasons in which he has helped guide the club into the Champions League twice.

Much like Werner, it looks inevitable that Upamecano will move on from Leipzig this summer, with the Premier League a potential destination.

Four of the league’s top six sides have already been linked with moves for the defender, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the other two entered the race at some point in the coming months.

Wout Weghorst

media

Club: Wolfsburg

Age: 27

Nationality: Netherlands

Position: ST

Linked teams: Tottenham, Crystal Palace

Robert Lewandowski and Timo Werner are firmly established as the Bundesliga’s best strikers, but Weghorst is among the best of the rest.

The Netherlands international, who stands at 6ft 5in, has netted 33 goals in 72 appearances for Wolfsburg since joining from AZ Alkmaar in 2018.

Weghorst is obviously strong in the air, but don’t be fooled into thinking that he is a one-trick pony – 13 of his 15 goals this season have come with the feet, while he is also an accomplished penalty taker.

Palace and Spurs are the two teams linked with a move so far, but any top-flight side in need of a striker this summer could do far worse than the Dutchman.

Jadon Sancho

Club: Borussia Dortmund

Age: 20

Nationality: England

Position: Winger

Linked teams: Manchester United, Chelsea

Sancho ripping it up in the Premier League is a sight that many will be keen to see.

The electric winger has emerged as one of England’s best players during his time in the Bundesliga, racking up a ridiculous 17 goals and 20 assists in all competitions this season.

Those itching to see what he can do back home could get their wish this summer.

Manchester United are the club linked most regularly with the 20-year-old, while Chelsea are also said to be interested.

Alassane Plea

media

Club: Borussia Monchengladbach

Age: 27

Nationality: France

Position: ST, RW, LW

Linked teams: Arsenal, Leicester, Manchester United, Tottenham

Plea turned down Premier League interest when he decided to leave Nice for Monchengladbach in 2018, and his time in the Bundesliga has only enhanced his reputation.

It could be argued that the Frenchman, while not the most prolific, is the most complete forward in the league – he has scored nine and provided eight assists so far this season.

Plea is just as comfortable coming short and feeding his teammates as he is making intelligent runs in behind and finishing himself, and has formed a deadly partnership with Marcus Thuram at Borussia.

The calibre of sides being linked with a move for Plea this summer is further evidence of his development in Germany.

Marcel Sabitzer

Club: RB Leipzig

Age: 26

Nationality: Austria

Position: Central midfield

Linked teams: Arsenal, Tottenham

Tottenham fans will know Sabitzer well already – he scored twice as Leipzig dumped them out of the Champions League in March.

The Austria international goes slightly under the radar in a Leipzig team that contains some of Europe’s best young players, but his contribution to their success cannot be underestimated.

He is their second-top scorer this season with 16 goals in all competitions, while he has also chipped in with nine assists. His versatility is impressive, too, with Sabitzer able to play in both a holding and advanced role, while also being deployed on the wing occasionally.

As it stands it is just the north London rivals linked with a move, but Sabitzer would be a worthy addition for any side in the top half of the Premier League.

Yussuf Poulsen

media

Club: RB Leipzig

Age: 25

Nationality: Denmark

Position: ST

Linked teams: Everton, Newcastle, West Ham

Poulsen is another Leipzig player who can be overshadowed by his younger teammates, but his legacy at the club runs even deeper than the others.

Poulsen joined the club when they were still in the 3. Liga – Germany’s third division – and played a big part in their back-to-back promotions to the top-flight.

He is now their longest-serving player ever, making 250 appearances over seven years, while scoring 63 goals and registering 51 assists.

Poulsen stands at 6ft 4in, but possesses serious pace, making him a perfect prototype for Premier League football.

Leon Bailey

Club: Bayer Leverkusen

Age: 22

Nationality: Jamaica

Position: LW, RW, ST

Linked teams: Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City

England fans will remember Bailey from 2018, when it was rumoured he may be a shock inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup.

As it turns out, Bailey was never eligible to play for the Three Lions, with the winger now a full international for the Reggae Boyz instead.

Bailey’s development has continued in the two years since and, after three-and-a-half seasons with Leverkusen, a summer move could be on the cards.

The 22-year-old’s game looks well-suited to the Premier League, with his pace a particularly strong asset.
