EG v Onyx in Betway Arena’s King of the Hill

Evil Geniuses are favourites but Onyx have already shown they're capable of taking down Dota2 giants...

Two weeks ago, Betway Arena fired the guns on the first series of the Dota 2 King of the Hill tournament. EG, one of the best teams on the scene, faced off compLexity Gaming in a gruelling BO5.

The first game of the series was an intense watch thanks to coL’s dignified performance, taking out EG in just over 50 minutes.

EG’s prospects of taking the first game looked promising due to an aggressive start, but coL’s on point global presence, coupled with timed stuns and effective support from the IO, upset EG’s plans. This really highlighted the implications – and dangers – of EG’S over-extending.

Unfortunately for coL, their performance failed to carry them on to further victory.

EG pretty much slaughtered coL during the drafting phase in game two, and with no solutions to EG and a series of missed plays, coL bowed out early.

During game three and four we saw a bit more momentum from coL, however it wasn’t enough, and EG took the series 3-1.

What we did see however, was some great potential especially in the form of monkey and Zfreek.

Monkey displayed consistent strength in the laning phase and made a lot of room for the team – it’s hard to predict what could have gone down had Zfreek been given a stronger opportunity with more aggressive heroes.

Betway Arena’s next match-up should be as exciting as it is unique. After their win over compLexity, EG will face off against a relatively new entity in Team Onyx; and it will be the first time these two teams meet.

Formed in January, Onyx has already caused a sensational upset by winning the NA Kiev Regional Qualifier.

Although a new team, their roster is made up of Dota veterans, and led by the brilliant BuLba, a seasoned alumnus of Team Liquid, Team Secret, Digital Chaos, and even EG themselves.

Their hurricane performance during the Kiev qualifiers swept them from the lower bracket right to the finals where they beat compLexity – the very team that knocked them out of the upper bracket to begin with.

While EG may still be considered the favourites, this is by no means a set result. They should look to NP and compLexity’s performance against Onyx in the Kiev qualifiers for tips on countering their play style.

coL got a lot of flak for not banning Meepo, which ended up being a gift to Abed. So, are we set to see a Meepo ban in the upcoming showdown?

We have a ton of exciting and unique markets to make this match-up even more exhilarating.

All in all, the second Betway Arena King of the Hill is going to be edge-of-your-seat stuff. The very first battle between Onyx and EG.

A brand new team against a well-established world leader. If you can’t smell smoke, it’s only because you’re not anticipating this match hotly enough. Don’t miss the action.

EG are {ODDS:144727632:1.10} favourites to win.
