Dubai Duty Free Darts Masters: Anderson the man to fear in the desert

World Champion is in great form and a good price for more glory

Gary Anderson is playing the role of world champion very nicely at the moment.

The biggest prize available in darts since the World Championship came round last week with the final of the Betway Premier League; the Scot looking to lift the trophy for a second time.

Anderson’s triumph on the O2 stage meant he has earned over half a million quid this year so far on the oche. It also cemented him as the finest player in the game at this precise moment.

With Phil Taylor now lagging behind, it is Anderson – along with Michael van Gerwen – that are setting the standard in darts.

MVG has also won two major titles this year – the UK Open and the Masters – and he only lost out in the final of the Betway Premier League to his great Scottish rival.

These two are now the pinnacle of the sport, and that is reflected in the odds for the Dubai Duty Free Darts Masters this week.

Mighty Mike goes in as favourite at 2/1, with Anderson narrowly behind at 3/1. Taylor’s reputation keeps him in the hunt at 3/1 as well, but he looks a much less appealing bet than the two leading the way in form at the moment.

Coming off his Betway Premier League victory with stunning wins over MVG and the bang in form Dave Chisnall, Anderson has to be the pick of the bunch.

It may be his debut in the event, but that shouldn’t matter given his levels of confidence and performance.

As the defending champion, MVG will fancy his chances but Anderson just seems to have the edge on him at the moment.

The Flying Scotsman has won the last three meetings between the pair, including a 6-0 whitewash in a Players Championship event earlier this month.

Back the world champion for more success this week.
