Week Thirteen. Birmingham. Home to Cadbury’s Chocolate. The Gravelly Hill Interchange, known as ‘Spaghetti Junction’ to millions of motorists. But most importantly of all, home to the Barclaycard Arena, which, just as in 2014, hosts the thirteenth night of the Betway Premier League – lucky for some.

The World No 1. and league leader, Michael van Gerwen, had an excellent start to the night last week in Cardiff, whitewashing James Wade 7-0 and securing his spot in next month’s play-offs at the O2.

However the Dutchman failed to hit the same heights in his second match, losing 7-5 in a gripping contest with World Champion Gary Anderson. The Flying Scotsman redeemed himself after a poor showing in his own first match, losing 7-1 and just about avoiding a clean sweep against Stephen Bunting.

Elsewhere, the fight for the three remaining play-off places intensifies as defending champion Raymond van Barneveld boosted his hopes by battling back from 4-2 down to defeat Dave Chisnall. It’s all still to play for, what will Birmingham have in store for us?

Betway Premier League Rewind: Last year in Birmingham…

A night when six-time Premier League champion Phil Taylor extended his unbeaten run to nine matches as he drew with his old nemesis Raymond van Barneveld. He then earned victory in his second match of the night, defeating Dave Chisnall 7-2, ending the latter’s chances of a top four finish.

Elsewhere, it was also the end of the road for Adrian Lewis, whose own hopes of making the playoffs were dashed when he could only manage a draw to Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright. While Gary Anderson provided one of the shocks of the night, inflicting league leader Michael van Gerwen with only his third defeat of the season.
