From salt beef beigels in London’s East End to gourmet subs in Manchester, the UK’s sandwich scene is well and truly thriving. But which shops are really winning over the nation’s taste buds and social media feeds?
To find out, the team at Betway Online Casino has ranked 80 sandwich spots across the UK using the following metrics: Google review ratings, Instagram hashtag volume, and annual Google search volume. To decide which sandwich shops to rank, we took to Reddit and online articles to collate a list of recommended locations across the country.
Highlighting iconic institutions like Beigel Bake to rising stars like Alby’s and Fat Pat’s, our ranking crowns the ultimate spots for sandwich lovers, or those planning their next UK city break.
The top 10 most popular sandwich shops in the UK
1. Beigel Bake, London
An East End icon, Beigel Bake has been serving its famous filled beigels on Brick Lane since the 1970s. Still a must-visit for Londoners and tourists alike, the bakery recently went viral after false rumours of its closure spread online, which only boosted its already legendary status.
Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it’s no surprise the popular late-night snack and lunch spot has racked up over one million annual Google searches and nearly 12,000 Instagram posts under its hashtag. Beigel Bake tops the charts for popularity, proving that sometimes the simplest sandwiches, including its infamous salt beef bagel, are the ones that stand the test of time.
2. Sandwich Sandwich, Bristol and London
A family owned business starting in Bristol over 30 years ago, Sandwich Sandwich, which has four locations – two in central London and two in Bristol – comes in second place. Known for using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, they craft generously filled sandwiches in a wide variety of flavours, from classic chicken Kyiv to vegan falafel, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
With over a million annual Google searches and thousands of social media shoutouts, it’s become a go-to for sarnie lovers across both cities craving a delicious bite to eat.
3. The Black Pig, London
In third place is The Black Pig, which can be found in London’s Borough Market Kitchen. The spot has built a loyal following since opening in 2019 thanks to its delicious toasted ciabatta sandwiches, including its signature honey truffle and parmesan pork ciabatta.
With a 4.6/5 star Google rating and strong traction on social media with almost 4,500 Instagram posts, it’s clear The Black Pig has found the perfect recipe for delighting the tastebuds of both locals and visitors to the capital.
4. Johnny Schnitzel, London
In fourth place is Johnny Schnitzel, located in Islington. Known for bringing a playful twist to traditional schnitzel sandwiches piled high in soft brioche buns, this spot has quickly earned a cult following for its perfectly seasoned coatings and generous portions.

5. Alby’s, Edinburgh (Leith and Southside)
Up in Scotland, Alby’s comes in fifth. With two locations in the city, Alby’s has been serving delicious hot sandwiches with adventurous fillings since 2019, building up a dedicated customer base in a fairly short period of time.

With an almost perfect 4.9 star rating and almost 65,000 annual Google searches, this spot certainly has a loyal customer base despite a smaller social media presence.
3. Bite Me Sandwich Bar, Glasgow
In third is Bite Me Sandwich Bar in Glasgow. First opening in 2004, Bite Me Sandwich Bar regularly takes home awards for its mouthwatering paninis, toasties and baguettes.
Thanks to its healthy 4.7 Google rating and almost 2,500 Instagram posts, this independent spot in Glasgow is the ideal place to stop off for a sandwich you know is going to tick all the boxes.
4. Banh Mi Brothers, Edinburgh
In fourth is Banh Mi Brothers, another Edinburgh location, suggesting Scotland is the second best place for sandwich lovers outside of London. Bringing a taste of Vietnam to Scotland’s capital, Banh Mi Brothers is known for its fresh baguettes filled with fragrant herbs, pickled vegetables, and perfectly seasoned meats.
With 262 Instagram posts under its hashtag, Banh Mi Brothers has a smaller social media presence than some other spots in the top 10, however its 4.9 star rating solidifies it as a must-visit spot for a bite if you’re in the area.
5. Fresh The Baguette Bar, Cardiff
Over in Cardiff, Fresh The Baguette Bar comes in fifth. Once named one of the top places to eat by Tripadvisor, this local favourite is renowned for its generously filled, freshly made baguettes.
With an almost perfect 4.9 rating, and almost 23,000 searches a year, it’s a lunchtime staple for locals. And while it may have a smaller social media presence, that doesn’t stop the queues of hungry regulars come lunchtime.
Rounding out the UK’s top 10 sandwich spots are some standout regional favourites. Grumpy Pedro’s in Glasgow, in sixth, boasts near-perfect 4.9 star ratings, while Manchester’s Fat Pat’s draws huge attention with thousands of Instagram posts and searches, proving its popularity far beyond the city.
Named Uber Eats’ Restaurant of the year for 2025, Silver’s Deli in Leeds came in eighth, whilst Dene’s Deli in Newcastle came ninth, impressing with a 4.8 star rating. Rounding off the top 10 is another Leeds spot, Cheesy Living Co, which impresses with its range of cheesy toasties and sarnies.

A seedlist of 80 sandwich shops was collected by analysing Reddit threads and articles on popular sandwich shops. They were then analysed according to the following metrics:
Google search volume – A monthly average was taken and multiplied by 12 to find annual search volume
Instagram hashtags
Google review rating
