Manny Pacquiao’s advisor with Betway to discuss the possibility of the Filipino boxing icon facing Tyron Woodley this year.
Sean Gibbons spoke with Betway to discuss the possibility of the Filipino boxing icon facing Tyron Woodley this year.
Despite Woodley calling for a showdown with Pacquiao and claiming there had been talks over the fight happening, Gibbons denied those claims and revealed that it is not a clash that Pacquiao is entertaining.
Instead, Gibbons suggests that a fight with Conor McGregor would make more sense, should Pacquiao decide to take on a former UFC champion.
Could Pacquiao v Woodley happen?
SG: Tyron Woodley is about 180lbs. He’s not a great fighter, but that may be a tad too big for Manny. I don’t think anyone is interested in a Manny Pacquiao fight with Tyron Woodley. If there is anyone to fight then it is Conor McGregor – let’s go and make the fight, but whether it can happen this year is too hard to say. He has a contract with the UFC so we have to respect that, but you would have to ask Dana White if that fight could happen this year.
This is Manny Pacquiao’s farewell year in boxing but with Conor McGregor, Manny Pacquiao could wait until 2050 to have that fight. Manny could get off that couch and get some of that action. Manny has said this before, age is just a number. He is still operating at the highest level of the sport.
Could Pacquiao fight Conor Benn this year?
SG: The Conor Benn fight all depends on if they do [Benn’s] suspension starting back from two years ago or whatever the time frame, and it all depends on how it all comes down but it’s certainly not dead. We need to see what happens (after the British Boxing Board of Control and United Kingdom Anti-Doping won their appeal to lift his provisional suspension) but that is still a fight that can certainly happen. We just have to wait and see.
