Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr spoke addresses the rumours of a potential showdown against Tommy Fury.

Jones, a four-division world champion who won the heavyweight world title in 2003, revealed he was interested in a crossover fight after having a conversation with John Fury in Saudi Arabia prior to Tyson Fury’s showdown against Francis Ngannou.

The American also previewed Fury’s upcoming battle with Oleksandr Usyk to determine the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

Is it true you are in talks to face Tommy Fury?

There is truth to that, we spoke in Saudi Arabia because of the fact that John Fury was with Tyson. Me and Fury family, we have a lot of history. I was one of the people who told Tyson five or six years back that he could come back and beat all of them and that’s what he has done.

To be in the ring with somebody from the social media era and have a big fight with Tommy Fury, I may not be who I was but to be in with against someone from the YouTube era, it’s a different type of thing and can captivate the audience. I think it’s a good thing.

The fight would have to happen early next year. He’s definitely a legitimate fighter, he’s not a bad fighter at all and he comes from a family of fighters. Sometimes he doesn’t take fighters as seriously as he should. It’s like Tyson, he didn’t take Francis Ngannou as seriously as he should but when he is fighting someone like Oleksandr Usyk it’ll be different.

Sometimes people play to the level of their opposition and if you fight people who aren’t going to do anything and you are expected to win, you’re probably not going to do much but when you fight somebody that you know can do a whole lot then you have to be on you’re a game.

I’ll be 55 years old if we fight. It would be a very interesting fight for both of us because of my age. My mind can still do it, but body isn’t able to, so I’ll have to figure it out and be smarter. I think the fight could because he has the social media following. I think a Jake Paul fight is also possible.

How do you see Fury v Usyk going?

Here’s the thing that people don’t seem to realise, Tyson Fury fights to the level of his opposition. He didn’t feel threatened by Francis Ngannou because he didn’t go out there, get in shape and get mentally prepared to where he felt threatened by Francis Ngannou.

But people didn’t see Francis Ngannou as a threat because he isn’t a boxer, and especially not for 10 rounds. He knows Oleksandr Usyk is a threat and he’s going to fight Usyk totally different to how he fought Ngannou.

It is but because of Ngannou, Usyk will have a lot more confidence now. My prediction before that fight was that Tyson would win but it’s going to be a lot tougher now because of the fact of the last fight.

Tyson knew Francis Ngannou was a type of guy he wasn’t supposed to struggle with but I have to go with Tyson Fury. You’ve got to back in history but he will rank pretty high because nobody has beaten Oleksandr Usyk yet.
