Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson offer a multitude of options

Danny Flexen of boxingnewsonline.net tells you how to be a winner

A CASE can be made for several different outcomes in the Danny Garcia-Lamont Peterson catchweight fight this Saturday in Brooklyn. Fortunately, every possible result is available at odds against.

Garcia is a talented technical boxer with a big left hook, and his opponent was walloped in three rounds by Lucas Matthysse almost two years ago, so backing the Philadelphian to win on points or by stoppage/KO is justifiable. Peterson, meanwhile, is a gifted body-puncher and usually produces an impressive workrate, so he too could be backed to win either way. Even a draw at 25/1 isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

Unbeaten Garcia appears tighter at the light-welter limit of 140lbs, so the contracted poundage of 143 may suit him to a greater degree. He is also durable – dangerous Argentine Matthysse stunned him four months after destroying Peterson but Danny absorbed his best shots, rapidly recovered and out-boxed his adversary to triumph on points. Garcia’s mind-set is a concern, however, as his career has floundered somewhat since being talked of as a potential Floyd Mayweather foe after schooling Matthysse. He struggled against Mauricio Herrera last March then blasted out the overmatched Rod Salka – at a 142lbs catchweight – in August.

Peterson can be workmanlike and Garcia, now finally inspired by a relatively major fight, should bring his A-game. If he does the 2/1 for an inside-schedule victory is, like your author in a certain light, incredibly attractive.
