The tallest current NBA player is Canadian Zach Edey of the Memphis Grizzlies. Standing at a towering 7ft 4in, Edey is the tallest player in Big Ten history – though still some way off the all-time tallest NBA players.
Edey dethrones previous NBA tallest player Houston Rockets centre Boban Marjanovic, who is also 7ft 4in tall (2.24m). Marjanovic left the NBA to play in Europe, and has recently signed with the Zhejiang Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association.
Edey has had a solid first season in the NBA and has at times been considered an outside contender in the NBA odds for Rookie of the Year.
The second-tallest current NBA player is Victor Wembanyama. The French centre for the San Antonio Spurs stands at 7ft 3in, and notably also holds a silver medal from the 2024 Olympics, as well as his title of 2024 Rookie of the Year.
He’s in good company alongside fellow 7ft 3in tall player Bol Bol of the Phoenix Suns. Bol is the son of former NBA player Manute Bol, one of the tallest players in NBA history. Bol started his career with the Denver Nuggets before being traded to the Orlando Magic during the 2021-22 season.
Next up, we have Kristaps Porzingis, the Latvian big man for the Boston Celtics, who measures in at 7ft 2in. He shares his height with fellow Celtics player Luke Kornet; the Vanderbilt product is also 7ft 2in tall, and the NCAA’s all-time leader for three-pointers made by a player standing seven feet tall or taller.
Rounding out our list of the tallest current NBA players is Moses Brown. Also standing at 7ft 2in, Brown has returned to the Dallas Mavericks for the current season after last appearing for them during the 2021-22 season.

The tallest NBA player in history is Gheorghe Muresan, standing at 7ft 7in. Muresan played for the Bullets/Wizards and the New Jersey Nets during his career. The Romanian won the NBA’s Most Improved Player award in 1996, and led the league in field-goal percentage in both 1996 and 1997.
Interestingly, Bol Bol’s father, Manute Bol, is the joint-tallest player in NBA history, standing at 7ft 7in tall (2.31m) – 4 inches taller than his son! The Sudanese-born centre, who played for the Washington Bullets, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat over the course of his career, is considered one of the best shot-blockers in the history of the league.
Incidentally, he also played alongside the shortest player in NBA history, Muggsy Bogues, during the 1987/88 season with the Bullets – Bogues stood 5ft 3in (1.60m) and their height difference was 28in (71cm).
Next up, there are a few players at 7ft 6in:
Up first, Tacko Fall of Senegal. He was already 7ft 3in at the age of 15, but measured up at 7ft 6in when he played for the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Then we have the legend Yao Ming, the Chinese superstar who played eight seasons for the Houston Rockets between 2002 and 2011.
Standing at 7ft 6in (2.29m), Yao is the tallest player to be selected for the NBA All-Star Game, and the tallest player to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
He was the tallest active player in the NBA for much of his career, and set several franchise records in Houston.
Rounding the list off is Shawn Bradley, who played 832 games for the 76ers, the Nets and the Mavericks, standing at 7ft 6in (2.29m).
