NBA tip-off: The best bets for this week's round-two playoff games
The Warriors should close out the series sweep in a low-scoring game in Salt Lake City...
Golden State Warriors @ Utah Jazz
The Warriors can advance to their third consecutive Western Conference finals with a win on Monday night, and it’s hard to bet against them doing just that.
Steve Kerr’s side are unbeaten in this season’s playoffs, and are favourites to see off the Jazz.
The Warriors’ winning run is now at eight, and seven of those victories have come by a double-digit margin.
They are therefore good value to win by at least eight points at .
Both teams are ranked second and third in defensive rating in the regular season, meaning this should be a relatively low-scoring game.
They have combined for over 206 points in just one of their six meetings this season, so it’s worth backing Golden State to win and under 206.5 total points at .
Houston Rockets @ San Antonio Spurs
This has been a topsy-turvy series in which neither team has taken control.
The Spurs won back-to-back games after losing by 27 points on their home court in game one, but then suffered another lopsided defeat in Houston on Sunday night.
Now, back in San Antonio, they should re-take the lead by winning game five.
The Spurs won 31 of their 41 home games in the regular season and three of their four meetings with Houston.
And while injured point guard Tony Parker is a big miss for San Antonio, it is hard to see how Houston can cope without 34-year-old centre Nene, who went down in game four.
With Pau Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge, the Spurs have the tools to take advantage of Houston’s frontcourt weakness.
Considering all four games so far have been decided by double-digit margins, backing San Antonio -6 is a sensible bet at .
Washington Wizards @ Boston Celtics
The Celtics lost back-to-back games in Washington, but should take back control of a series that has gone with home advantage so far.
Boston won 30 of their 41 home games during the regular season, while the Wizards struggled on the road with 22 defeats and just 19 wins.
Washington have now lost four of their five away games in this year’s playoffs, with an average margin of defeat of 12.5 points.
Backing the Celtics to win ( ), and to win by at least five points ( ) are smart choices.
The first four games of this series have averaged 227.5 points, so it’s also worth betting on there being over 215 scored in total at .
