Most loved NCAA Coaches

Ever wondered who are the most loved NCAA coaches in the league? Find out in our latest report on the fan-favorite head coaches according to mentions online.

Visit our March Madness betting page.

When it comes to being considered a great head coach, you are defined by results on the court. Whilst winning games on the court has a lot to do with whether you are popular or not with fans, there are also other factors which can build rapport with fans.

Some coaches are loved through their determination to overachieve with a team with not as much talent as other rosters while passion, energy and a great personality can be other contributions to being popular with fans as head coach.

But which coaches are the most well-perceived by fans? Betway has conducted new research to outline who the most popular coaches in the NCAA are, according to data from social media.

Top 10 Most well-respected NCAA (Men’s) coaches

The following table ranks the top 10 NCAA coaches based on positive sentiment score (%) on social media platforms such as X (formerly known as Twitter), and Facebook from the past 12 months:

Kansas’ Bill Shelf is ranked as the most popular head coach with an impressive 43% positive online sentimental score. But who could argue with that?

Shelf has led the Jayhawks to 17 Big 12 regular season championships, alongside an NCAA record for 14 consecutive Big 12 regular season champions, three NCAA Final Four appearances and two NCAA championship wins (2008 and 2022).

In close second place is UCLA’s Mick Cronin with an impressive 43% positive online sentimental score.  While Cronin is being linked as a candidate for the vacant Louisville Cardinal role, fans have made it clear that they want the 52-year-old to remain head coach.

The Bruins fans have embraced Cronin for his reputation of being loyal to his team and with an overall record of 115-53 in over four seasons, they will hope Cronin will remain in Westwood to build on recent successes.

Despite scandals always appearing to follow him wherever he goes, John Calipari surprisingly has the backing of Kentucky fans as head coach.

With over 800 wins, the former point guard is ranked inside the top 15 for most wins as head coach, the Wildcats fanbase is keeping faith in Calipari’s winning mentality with an approval of 41% in positive comments online.
