Here are Jack Green's five NBA tips to consider for Tuesday night's season opener between the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers.
Lakers to win
The Lakers can get their title defence off to a flying start with a win over their Los Angeles rivals on opening night.
These teams split the season series 2-2 in 2019-20 but, crucially, the Lakers won the last two meetings and improved as the season went on, while the Clippers faded dramatically in the playoffs.
The Lakers’ offseason additions of Dennis Schroder and former Clipper Montrezl Harrell should help them maintain their superiority over the Clippers on Tuesday night.
Under 219.5 total points
The four games between these teams last season were all intense defensive battles, and this one should be no different.
Those four meetings saw an average of 212.5 points per game, with each one going under 218 total points.
Anthony Davis over 25.5 points
Davis was the Lakers’ leading scorer last season, averaging 26.1 points per game, and he dominated teams in the Orlando bubble.
The power forward scored 34 and 30 in the Lakers’ two wins over the Clippers last year, and he’ll be extremely difficult to stop now that post defender Harrell has switched allegiances to the purple and gold.
Kawhi Leonard over 26.5 points
Leonard is not the kind of player who shies away in big games, averaging 30 points per game against the Lakers last season.
The two-time Finals MVP scored at least 27 points in all four games against the Lakers in 2019-20, including a 30-point game in the season opener.
Lou Williams under 14.5 points
Williams averaged 18.2 points per game last season but slumped to an average of just 12.8 in the playoffs.
The Clippers’ sixth man scored just seven and six in his last two games against the Lakers, so it’s worth betting on the under here.
