Paul Nolan’s representatives always warrant respect when sent this side of the Irish Sea and he has a particularly interesting runner in this year’s Fred Winter. HARWA looked like a really bright prospect in France towards the back end of the last calendar year before selling for 50,000 euros at the Arqana Sale in November and this four-year-old made no mistake on Irish debut, when bolting up in a Fairyhouse maiden hurdle. Juvenile hurdlers that have been trained in France often have a big edge given that they tend to get going earlier in the year than those trained in Britain and Ireland and the form of his Irish outing has already received a boost, with the fourth winning in good style on handicap debut.A mark of 132 could underestimate what he has achieved so far and he also has the potential to improve for quicker ground. He makes plenty of appeal from an each-way perspective.

A total of eight mares have won the Champion Hurdle since its inaugural running in 1927, the last five of those coming from 2016 onwards – Annie Power (2016), Epatante (2020), Honeysuckle (2021, 2022) and Golden Ace (2026). It’s highly probable we’ll see another on Tuesday with Willie Mullins’ Lossiemouth, Gordon Elliott’s Brighterdayshead and Jeremy Scott’s reigning champion GOLDEN ACE 11/1 all still entered. Brighterdaysahead is the highest rated horse in the race (160) and she’ll be extremely hard to beat if running to that figure in receipt of a hugely valuable 7lb mares’ allowance. However, the seven-year-old was 5/2 second favourite 12 months ago and ran well below expectations, weakening quickly from two out and unable to take advantage of the falls of either Constitution Hill or State Man, leaving Golden Ace to pick up the pieces.Indeed, Scott’s mare has defeated Brighterdaysahead the two times they’ve met, both at the festival, having won the Grade 2 Dawn Run Novices’ Hurdle in 2024. The daughter of Golden Horn has form figures of 1131 in her four visits to Cheltenham and she’s a strong stayer at this trip, which is key given this track’s stiff uphill finish.
Marcus Buckland
Dan Skelton is a master in these Cheltenham handicaps and BOOMBAWN 40/1 looks like a fascinating runner in the Plate. He was not disgraced in Graded company last season and has fallen a long way down the weights in the interim. He will relish the drop back in distance and looks worth chancing at a big price.

In the National Hunt Chase, ONE BIG BANG 8/1 (EW) (17:20 Cheltenham) can gain a reward for his consistency. Fifth in the Pertemps Final over hurdles last year, he needs producing late in his races as he can think the job is done, but the test of stamina looks right up his street. The slight concern about his desire to win makes him more of an each‑way angle.
