Today’s Cheltenham Lucky 15 tips
13:20 Cheltenham – Klimt Madrik @ 40/1
No Drama This End finds himself at the top of the market after his Challow success at Newbury but the horse who was just over a length behind him, Klimt Madrik, looks overpriced and is worth chancing.
The six-year-old kept on well for second in the Challow and was closing on No Drama This End all the way to the line in that contest, an effort worth marking up given that he had a lot of ground to make up in a slowly run race.
This is likely to be run at a decent clip with several of this field sure to go forward and that should help this habitual hold-up performer.
This slightly longer trip with the stiff Cheltenham finish should also suit him and he is still completely unexposed having just his fourth start over timber.
14:40 Cheltenham – Jingko Blue @ 10/1
Jingko Blue may be the second-string on jockey bookings for Nicky Henderson but he looks capable of outrunning his double figure price.
The seven-year-old achieved a smart level of form over fences last season, winning a Grade 2 novice at Windsor before unseating early and losing his unbeaten record over the larger obstacles at Ascot.
Connections have opted to send him back over timber since and he came on markedly from his reappearance to finish runner-up in the Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.
Back in a handicap off a mark of 144, he looks well treated in a race that does not look like the strongest recent renewal we have had.
15:20 Cheltenham – Vanillier @ 13/2
There is little doubt that Vanillier would have finished much closer to his stablemate (re-opposing Stumptown) in last year’s renewal of this contest if not for jockey error, and he gets a big swing in the weights with Stumptown this time.
The veteran is 2lb lower than last year and bounced back to form in good style on the banks course at Punchestown last time out, winning in better style than the margin suggested.
That looks like an ideal prep for this and he should relish getting back on quicker ground.
16:40 Cheltenham – Be Aware @ 11/2
Be Aware has been knocking on the door in Graded company this season after winning on his chase debut at Stratford and the handicapper has let him off lightly with a mark of 147 back in handicap company.
He was only beaten a length in a Grade 2 at Windsor last time and he probably would have won if he had settled better in the early stages.
A bigger field in which he can get cover should help on that front and he looks like a worthy selection.
