Premier League tips: Best bets for Nottingham Forest v Tottenham

William Maxwell’s tips for Friday night’s clash at The City Ground include a handful of cards and a Tottenham victory.

Spurs will move level on points with Manchester City if they can topple a Forest side dropping dangerously close to the bottom three.

Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham best bets

Over 3.5 cards @ 3/8

Pedro Porro to assist and Tottenham to win @ 11/2

Over 8.5 corners @ 17/40

Referee to have a busy day

Both Steve Cooper and Ange Postecoglou have seen their teams and themselves receive stern conversations and bookings from referees across the division this season.

The two sides both occupy top half positions in the bookings rankings, lying 9th and 5th respectively.

Forest has seen at least one player pick up a yellow in each of their last five games, but this statistic barely scrapes the surface of their recent ill-discipline, with a 4-0 defeat to West Ham in February the last time Forest avoided any bookings in a competitive game.

More of the same is to be expected with Jarred Gillett at the helm on Friday night, as the Australian has awarded an average of 4.86 yellow cards per game.

Porro to provide once again in victory

Tottenham have won four of their nine away games in all competitions this season, but have not been victorious in either of their last two.

This may have coincided with the unfortunate ankle injury suffered by summer signing James Maddison, who has been a crucial cog in Tottenham’s creative wheel.

Someone had to pick up the torch to reignite Spurs’ season and Spanish wing-back Pedro Porro has helped do just that.

Porro has been a rare bright spark in what has been a poor run of form for Tottenham, with four assists in his last five games, including one in the 4-1 victory over Newcastle United on Sunday.

With Maddison potentially making his return from injury on Friday, it could be a rout at The City Ground for the North London side and the in-form Spaniard will likely have a say in at least one of the goals.

Game to be decided by crucial corners

Tottenham’s direct wing play with overlapping full-backs has caused opposition defences a host of issues this season.

Thirteen of Tottenham’s 27 assisted goals this season have been provided either by wide players, and so it will come as no surprise that this focal point of attack has also earned Spurs their fair share of corners.

The away side have taken 90 corners in the league so far this season, 34 more than Forest, who lay 19th in this table.

The two sides have a combined average of 9.1 corners a game and, whilst the majority are likely to fall in favour of Tottenham, the hosts will likely get a handful of chances from the corner flags.
