Phill Anderson's best bets for Tuesday include selections from Yarmouth, Uttoxeter, and Listowel.
There are five race meetings in the UK and Ireland on Tuesday, with a mix of Flat and jumps action. We have bets across three of them, covering the feature races at Uttoxeter and Listowel, plus another interesting pick at the Irish track for a returning native.
MANHATTAN MIRAGE @ SP (Yarmouth 3.25)
DIEU VIVANT @ SP (Uttoxeter 3.45)
KINGSWOOD @ SP (Listowel 3.50)
OLD FAITHFUL @ SP (Listowel 4.25)
Kingswood to win Listowel feature
The feature race at Listowel is the Edmund & Josie Whelan Memorial Listowel Stakes (Listed Race) over nine furlongs and it’s a competitive affair around this tight track.
Miramis, trained by Joseph O’Brien has been much improved over 7f lately but is a winner over this trip before. Dermot Weld’s Keep In Touch was just behind her in a Listed race at Galway last time and is a player too, along with the improving Fleetfoot for Jim Bolger.
However, KINGSWOOD (SP) makes most appeal. Trained by John O’Donoghue and a winner over slightly further earlier in the year, he was since thirrd in a Group 3 and just got run down late in a premier handicap at the Curragh last time, both over that trip. On the latter occasion he travelled supremely well throughout and the drop back one furlong should suit him. He has a good draw in stall 4, which is a help at this track and can score under Ronan Whelan.
Faithful to score for Murphy
Oisin Murphy returns to his native county Kerry to ride at Listowel for the first time and has four mounts on the card. He teams up with Aidan O’Brien in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Rated Race for 2yos over 1 mile, and he can guide the Siyouni colt OLD FAITHFUL (SP) to victory.
Murphy worked in Ballydoyle before moving to Andrew Balding’s yard and it is significant that he is given the ride on this horse in what is effectively a limited nursery handicap.
This colt was only beaten just over four lengths by subsequent Group 2 winner Diego Velazquez on his debut before finding trouble in running and not handling the track at Gowran all that well since.
This level, turning track will suit him better as will the step up to a mile so, although he is the only non-winner in this field, he can break his maiden off a low weight.
Mirage can be best
At Yarmouth, the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Div II) over six furlongs can go the way of Alice Haynes’ MANHATTAN MIRAGE (SP) under Rossa Ryan.
This colt by promising first-season sire Inns Of Court cost €170,000 as a yearling and made a solid start to his career when 3rd at Ffos Las recently over this trip.
He could have most to fear from nicely-bred newcomers Mukaafah and Warsong but can build upon his debut effort and score today.
Dieu Vivant to double up
The feature race at Uttoxeter is the QuinnBet Handicap Chase over three miles and a number of the eight runners have decent chances.
Do No Wrong has won twice over C&D recently but is raised in class today and the forecast rain could turn the ground against him.
Any News got off the mark over fences last time beating today’s rival Polish at Worcester but this is a stronger race and both will have to improve. Risk And Roll has been running in stronger company than this and is respected even coming back off an absence. However, the most interesting one could be DIEU VIVANT (SP), trained by Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero.
He had been campaigned mostly in hunter chases over the last two years but put up a career best when easily landing a Bangor handicap chase two weeks ago. He is up 8lb from but that was his first run since April and he can win again under Toby Wynne.
