14.00 – EBF Stakes
The one who catches my eye in the first race of the day is George Scott’s USAIN BOAT .
He’s the only one in the field who has tasted victory over this distance following a solid display last time out at Newmarket.
The colt’s debut at Yarmouth also deserves praise, but he definitely looked more comfortable stepping up from five to six furlongs.
Frankie Dettori takes the ride for the first time and I think this looks a big price.
15.45 – Class 2 Handicap
This is a competitive handicap, but I can’t see past Roger Varian’s AJMAN KING .
The four-year-old was disappointing on debut, but has improved markedly with three wins in a row following two runner-up places.
He’s a two-time course-and-distance winner on both good and heavy ground, so he should be fine whatever the conditions on Friday.
He looks very tough to beat here.
16.30 – The Oaks
You’re covered with our excellent offer – free bet up to £10 if your horse loses – in this big Group 1 battle of the fillies.
With that in mind, I’d go for Clive Cox’s PERFECT CLARITY .
She’s unbeaten after victories at Nottingham and Lingfield, both by 1¼ lengths, and is also the only one in the field to hold a victory over 1m 4f.
When Adam Kirby and Cox team up it usually ends in success, so I think she’s the one to back.
17.50 – Investec Handicap
We’ll finish off with the Zebra handicap, where I’m going to look beyond those vying for favouritism and go for Richard Fahey’s CLUBBABLE .
She’s a consistent filly having only finished outside the top three once, holding two wins, four seconds and two thirds to her name.
Both of those victories came in her last two outings, the first at Leicester and then more recently as an impressive 11/1 winner at the Dante Festival.
She’s nicely handicapped at 8-3 and proven over 7f, so this looks the best bet for me.
