The Money List: Golf tips for the Travelers Championship
Jack Green's golf tips for this week's PGA Tour event at TPC River Highlands include two each-way bets and an outsider at a big price.
I’m tempted to back Bryson DeChambeau again this week after he went close at last week’s RBC Heritage, but his price of looks too short.
Instead, I’m going for two each-way selections at bigger prices, starting with Watson – a three-time Travelers Championship winner.
The left-hander triumphed at TPC River Highlands in 2010, 2015 and 2018, and his history of repeatedly winning the same events means he must be backed this week.
Watson’s 12 career wins have come at just seven different courses, and his form heading into this week is much better than last year, when he posted a disappointing T54.
The 41-year-old finished T52 last week but was T7 at the Charles Schwab Challenge a fortnight ago and has three top-seven finishes in his last seven starts.
Casey has never won the Travelers Championship but still has a fantastic record at this event.
The Englishman has played here in each of the past five years, finishing inside the top five on four occasions and T17 on the other.
He has twice been runner-up at River Highlands, including in 2015 when he lost out to Watson in a playoff.
This is Casey’s first start since the PGA Tour season was suspended, but the world No. 25 finished 11th at the WGC – Mexico Championship just before the break and should again be in contention if he rediscovers that form.
Harman’s form has been solid since the PGA Tour returned. He finished T23 at the Charles Schwab Challenge and then T28 at last week’s RBC Heritage.
The American closed with an impressive round of 65 on Sunday at Harbour Town, so he has some momentum heading into one of his favourite events.
Harman has finished inside the top 10 in his last two starts at River Highlands and was also third here in 2015.
The 33-year-old’s struggles last year saw him drop out of the top 100 in the world rankings, but it’s worth remembering he was in the top 20 in 2018. He’s a quality player when in form and has a chance this week.
