The Money List: Golf tips for the South African Open
Jack Green's golf tips for this weekend's European Tour event include a pick to win, an each-way shout and an outsider.
BACK TO WIN
Erik van Rooyen
South Africans have won 14 of the 23 renewals of this event, including two of the last three, so it’s worth backing a player from the Rainbow Nation this week.
Van Rooyen looks a great option at Randpark, having finished second when this course hosted the Joburg Open in December 2017.
The world No. 48 earned his first ever European Tour win in 2019 as he triumphed at the Scandinavian Invitation in August. He also finished second on three occasions, including at the Turkish Airlines Open in November.
He’s one of the class acts of this relatively shallow field and is a better bet than favourite Louis Oosthuizen, who is too short at .
Norris is in cracking form as he heads to his home Open.
The South African has finished inside the top four in four of his last five starts, including runner-up finishes at the Taiheiyo Masters and Casio World Open on the Japan Tour.
Norris’ best finish at this event was a T11 in 2012, but he has a great chance to improve upon that result this week given that it’s now being held at Randpark.
He finished T3 at the Joburg Open in December 2017, which remains his best European Tour result to date.
This event looks wide open, so I’m going for another South African at a huge price.
Easton had never made the cut at the SA Open before it was first held at Randpark in 2018. He finished T3 on that occasion – his best ever European Tour result.
The 32-year-old has three Sunshine Tour wins in his career to date, two of which came in South Africa.
Easton’s coming off a T10 finish at the Australian PGA Championship, so he’s poised to perform well again in his home country.
