Golf tips: Best bets for the Charles Schwab Challenge 2019

Jack Green's golf tips for this week's PGA Tour event at Colonial cover a player to win, an each-way shout and an outsider.

Back to win: Jon Rahm {ODDS:423302390:11/1}

Rahm has gone close in both of his previous starts at this event, having finished T2 in 2017 and T5 last year.

The Spaniard missed the cut at the PGA Championship last weekend, which might actually be a bonus. With the weekend off, he avoided two gruelling days of chasing Brooks Koepka at Bethpage Black.

Prior to last week, Rahm had made the cut in all 10 of his starts in 2019, a run that includes seven top-10 finishes and a win with Ryan Palmer in the Zurich Classic – a pairs event – in April.

Colonial is a course where plenty of players play it safe off the tee, but Rahm has always been aggressive at this venue, with good results.

He ranks third in shots gained off the tee on the PGA Tour in 2019 and that gives him the advantage in Texas this week.

Each-way shout: Kevin Kisner {ODDS:423302483:28/1}

Kisner held off Rahm to win this event two years ago in what was his third successive top-10 finish at Colonial.

The American missed the cut at Bethpage Black last week, ending a run of 12 successive made cuts, which included his victory at the WGC Match Play.

KJisner has been consistent this season without contending often, but his accuracy off the tee means this course is ideally suited to his game.

The 35-year-old ranks 29th in driving accuracy in 2019 and finished 30th in the same category last season.

Outside shot: Kevin Na {ODDS:423302588:66/1}

Na has spoken in the past about how much he enjoys playing at Colonial, which isn’t surprising given the success he’s had at the venue.

The 35-year-old’s T4 last year was his fifth finish of T13 or better at this event.

Na missed the cut last week but has largely played well this season, with his highlights a T5 at the WGC Match Play and a T10 at the RBC Heritage in April.

The Korean-American ended a seven-year drought with a win at the Greenbrier in July 2018 and looks one of the better long shots to contend this week given his history at Colonial.
