Tenner On: Our writers battle to win most weekend profit
Armed with a £10 stake, our writers put forth their football tips in an attempt to be crowned the week's top tipster.
Tenner On is our writers' weekly football tips competition.
The rules are simple: each writer is given £10 to place any bet(s) they like over the weekend. At the end of the season, the writer with the most profit is crowned the Insider's top tipster.
Dortmund, Sheffield United, Tranmere and Juventus all to win: £10 at 6/1*
Dortmund are the only side with an unbeaten home record in the Bundesliga, and have dropped just four points in their 13 league games at the Westfalenstadion this season. Wolfsburg were hammered 6-0 at Bayern Munich in their last away game and this should be a similarly routine home win.
Sheffield United have won eight on the spin at Bramall Lane and haven’t even conceded a goal in their last seven league games. They are worth backing against a Bristol City side that are winless in six.
Tranmere have won their last six in League Two to give themselves a chance of automatic promotion and should make it seven at home to Carlisle, who have won just one of their last nine.
Finally, Juventus are running away with Serie A. They have won 12 and drawn two of their 14 home games this season, while Empoli have taken just four points in 13 games on the road and have the worst away record in the league.
Leeds and Doncaster to win & over 1.5 goals, Northampton draw no bet: £10 at 5/1*
Leeds have won eight of their last 11 home games, with two of the exceptions coming against fellow promotion-chasers Norwich and Sheffield United.
Only one of those victories have finished 1-0, so this looks safe.
Doncaster have won seven of their nine home matches against bottom-half teams, with over 1.5 goals scored in all of them, so they’re an easy pick.
Finally I think Northampton, who have lost just two of their last 17 home games, will probably beat Port Vale, who are without an away win in six.
A few of those matches have been draws, though, so I’ve played it safe with the draw no bet.
Tranmere, Norwich, Bologna and Utrecht to win or draw, Dortmund and Frankfurt to win: £10 at 15/2*
I wasn’t far off with a double-chance acca before the international break, so we go again this weekend.
I fancy Tranmere, Norwich, Bologna and Utrecht all to win, but I’m pleased to have the extra insurance of having the draw on side.
Dortmund and Frankfurt also look safe bets to win at home in the Bundesliga, and they bump this up to a nice price.
Wolves to beat Burnley: £10 at 7/5*
Wolves’ away form isn’t great, but I’m backing them to win simply because they’re the better team. Burnley have lost their last four matches, including at home to 10-man Leicester last time out.
BTTS & over 2.5 goals in Leicester v Bournemouth and Crewe v Cheltenham, Sheffield United & under 4.5 goals, Doncaster & over 1.5 goals, Thun to win or draw & BTTS: £10 at 40/1*
I think I've plotted a way out of this mess.
BTTS & over 2.5 goals has landed in Leicester's last six matches and, without Harry Maguire, I don't see that changing against Bournemouth.
The same goes for Crewe v Cheltenham in League Two, with three 2-1s, a 3-2 and a 6-1 in the last six games at Gresty Road.
Sheffield United have won their last eight at Bramall Lane with under 4.5 goals in all of them, while Doncaster stormed back to form in midweek with a 4-1 win at home to Bristol Rovers.
Walsall, their opponents on Saturday, have lost nine of their last 13 league away games by an aggregate score of 22-3 so, if they do lose, it's unlikely to be a narrow 1-0.
If we're still alive by this stage, then we'll roll over to Sunday for the BTTS banker of the weekend, and perhaps even the season.
Thun's only defeats in their last 10 were against the top two in the Swiss League, so I trust them not to lose what looks sure to be a thriller.
