Tenner On: Our writers battle to win most weekend profit
Armed with a £10 stake, our writers put forth their football tips in an attempt to be crowned the week's top tipster.
Tenner On is our writers' weekly football tips competition.
The rules are simple: each writer is given £10 to place any bet(s) they like over the weekend. At the end of the season, the writer with the most profit is crowned the Insider's top tipster.
Bury and Milan to win & over 1.5 goals, BTTS in Crewe v Northampton: £10 at 4/1*
I successfully backed Bury in this market last weekend, and their midweek EFL Trophy defeat to Portsmouth doesn’t put me off going again.
The Shakers have won 15 home games this season, and only the first of those finished 1-0.
In Serie A, I expect Milan to win by any scoreline other than 1-0 for the fourth consecutive home match.
Gennaro Gattuso’s have won 11 of their 17 matches at the San Siro overall this term, and all of them have featured over 1.5 goals.
Back in League Two, I expect plenty of entertainment when Crewe play Northampton.
BTTS has landed in four consecutive Crewe home matches, and six straight away games for their visitors.
RB Leipzig, Luton (-1) and Morecambe to win and BTTS in Real Madrid v Barcelona: £10 at 13/1*
Leipzig travel to a Nuremberg side that are bottom of the Bundesliga and are currently on a 19-game winless run. It doesn’t get much easier.
In League One, I’m backing table-topper Luton to win comfortably against a Rochdale side that have lost nine of their last 11 and conceded four or more in six of those.
Morecambe have won three and drawn two of their five games against the bottom four so, at this price, I’m very happy to back them.
Finally, two of this season’s three Clasicos have finished with both teams scoring, while BTTS has landed in 14 of the last 16 times Real Madrid and Barcelona have met in La Liga.
Everton to win or draw v Liverpool: £10 at 5/4*
My hunch is that Everton, who achieved a morale-boosting win at Cardiff in midweek, will get something from this game.
Two of the last four Merseyside derbies have ended in draws, while the league meeting between the two sides in December would’ve also ended all square had it not been for Jordan Pickford’s catastrophic injury-time error.
Liverpool’s away form, meanwhile, isn’t great, with Jurgen Klopp’s side failing to win four of the last five matches on the road.
Brighton, Luton and Bayern to win, Basel to win or draw & BTTS: £10 at 7/1*
Huddersfield finally won in midweek, but I’m not convinced that a run of form is imminent and I expect them to lose to a Brighton side that are decent at home.
I’m following Billy’s lead and backing Luton against Rochdale, who have lost eight of their last 10.
Borussia Monchengladbach have lost their last two home games 3-0, and will surely be beaten by Bayern on Saturday.
Basel and Thun have each been involved in 18 BTTS matches this season – the most in the Swiss Super League – so goals look likely in a game the in-form hosts shouldn’t lose.
Burnley to win, Luton to win & over 1.5 goals, Lincoln and Northampton to win or draw & BTTS: £10 at 33/1*
I'm heeding a few hunches this week in the hope of clearing my arrears.
Luton & over 1.5 has been a popular bet in this feature, and with good reason. The Hatters have won 13 of their 17 home games in League One, with two or more goals in all but one of those victories.
Rochdale have lost eight of their last 10 in the league, so I can't see Saturday bucking the trend.
Lincoln and Forest Green are League Two's joint-most reliable BTTS sides. The Imps have only lost one of their last 18, so I'll back the away side not to lose.
There have been goals at both ends in five of Crewe's last six at home and all of Northampton's last six away.
The visitors have only lost four of their last 20 - two of which were decided in the 90th minute - so I'll chase the extra value on offer with the visitors.
Finally, Burnley look an enormous price to win a sixth game in eight at Turf Moor.
Palace have been decent on the road recently, but are unlikely to get much chance to counter against a team that naturally keep it tight.
