Tenner On: Our writers battle to win most weekend profit
Armed with a £10 stake, our writers put forth their football tips in an attempt to be crowned the week's top tipster.
Tenner On is our writers' weekly football tips competition.
The rules are simple: each writer is given £10 to place any bet(s) they like over the weekend. At the end of the season, the writer with the most profit is crowned the Insider's top tipster.
Luton to beat Shrewsbury and BTTS in Barnsley v Scunthorpe and Frankfurt v Dortmund: £10 at 11/2*
Luton the hottest side in the EFL at the moment and won their 13th game in a 17-match unbeaten run in League One in midweek, beating second-placed Portsmouth 3-2. At an odds-against price, they’re massive value against a Shrewsbury side that have won just one of their last 10 in all competitions.
Elsewhere in League One, Barnsley and Scunthorpe are both banging them in. The two sides have scored a combined total of 17 league goals in their last four matches, so I’m expecting an exciting encounter when they meet at Oakwell.
Bundesliga leaders Dortmund have failed to score in just one of their 19 league games this season, while Frankfurt have netted three or more goals at home on six separate occasions this season. Both sides should bag on Saturday.
Wolves draw no bet, Luton to win, BTTS in Portsmouth v Doncaster: £10 at 15/2*
I strongly fancy Wolves to go well at Everton this weekend after a brilliant performance against West Ham, but I’ve decided to play it safe with a draw no bet.
Luton should extend a run of three consecutive wins at Shrewsbury, who will have been sapped of energy after conceding injury-time goals to Wolves and Bradford inside the last week.
Finally, I expect Portsmouth and Doncaster – two of League One’s top five goalscoring teams – to produce goals at Fratton Park.
Man Utd to beat Leicester and BTTS: £10 at 11/4*
I fancy United to make it five successive wins away from home, especially as several key performers who missed Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Burnley will be back in the side.
Both teams to score is worth adding in, too. Leicester’s most impressive performances come against the league’s best sides, while United have conceded in six of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s nine matches in charge.
Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United to win or draw and BTTS, Young Boys to win and BTTS: £10 at 17/2*
Dortmund have only lost one of their 19 Bundesliga matches this season, and I can’t see them being beaten by Eintracht Frankfurt in what should be a high-scoring game.
Manchester United’s trip to Leicester should also see plenty of goals, given how United have played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so far.
Solskjaer’s side should extend their unbeaten run to 10 games, as Leicester have won just two of their last eight home league matches.
Young Boys have already beaten Neuchatel Xamax 5-2 and 4-1 this season, so I’ll go for another comfortable win for the hosts with goals at both ends.
Bristol City to win or draw & BTTS, BTTS in Portsmouth v Doncaster and Burton v Oxford: £10 at 11/2*
Bristol City have won six in a row in all competitions, and are 10 unbeaten in the Championship.
That run includes five games at Ashton Gate that have seen both teams score in all but one.
Swansea have been involved in a 4-1 and 3-3 during the last seven days, so more goals should be guaranteed on Saturday.
Like Drurs, I'm also backing BTTS in Pompey v Doncaster, as well as Burton v Oxford, who have played out three 2-2s, a 2-3, 2-1 and 1-1 in their last six games combined.
